Salary Sacrifice Lease

OK, so my work have confirmed that they'll be introducing a salary sacrifice electric car scheme some time this year. Provider is TBC, they were talking about Octopus EVs in the past but haven't confirmed.

Crunching the numbers and given my tax bracket, a whole bunch of cars come out at almost exactly the same running cost as what I have now (10 year old E-class estate which is nowadays a bit too big for my needs):
  • Tesla Model 3
  • Tesla Model Y
  • VW ID.4
  • Skoda Enyaq
  • Polestar 2
  • Ioniq 5
What does the hive-mind have to say? Main preferences are that I really want a tow bar, hate jacked-up SUV crossover things, and need a decent centre arm rest due to damage to my shoulder a few years ago. Oh and it's a pet hate that Teslas don't have a display in front of the driver, but I've found aftermarket ones are possible so they're back on the list.

No expert here, but the ioniq 5 will tow 1600kg. If a Hyundai dealer fits one I am told it is very expensive. I’ve had a couple of quotes from national installers and both have made my eyes water!

Being Tesla charged me for the installation of a tow-bar and 13 pin towing electrics it was somewhat annoying.

I have rejected the car and Tesla have agreed to purchase the car back from me for the full purchase price. However it’s been an incredibly stressful process and their customer service has been woeful. If you want to tow with an EV my advice would be purchase anything but a Tesla. "

  • Use it mostly for a bike rack and for towing a camping trailer type thing for bulky/dirty loads, so losing aux power on the Teslas wouldn't be an issue for me.
  • Ioniq 5 was already on the marginal list, so that's probably enough to take it off. Thanks.

EV6 with tow bar and electrics (extra £650) not used it to tow the caravan yet but majority of use will be a Tow bar mounted back box for all the kids luggage when off visiting (terrorising?) folk or short holibobs.

Asked this question on the Tesla owners forum.

"Seems to depend on when it was fitted. You should have the live/aux pins, however the early ones didn’t have this as the 12v DC-DC converter wasn’t available. New installs should have the live and aux wiring."

I would confirm with Tesla but seems later cars have the capability for auxiliary power :mrgreen:
