Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

Vid yesterday from Fully Charged. It looks at interconnectors both within the UK, and to mainland Europe (Norway), and was, I think really interesting:

The INVISIBLE Energy Super Highways Powering the UK!
Can the National Grid really cope with electric vehicles?! That's the question we get asked A LOT on the Fully Charged Show and so we thought it was time to ask the experts. In this episode Helen takes us over, under and into the inner workings of the incredible infrastructure powering our homes and readying the grid for mainstream adoption of electric vehicles. From renewable energy see-saw cables, hidden underground tunnels and secret control rooms, Helen shows us the remarkable journey the electrons travel before they end up powering our kettles, phones, laptops, cars and the myriad of other things we plug in every day!

well this announcement is rather amusing considering the recent binning of at least 2 UK-FR interconnectors by the French regulators (AQUIND and GridLink)! Does this mean they'll come back from the dead?

Not holding my breathe for a positive outcome here but it would appear the proposal carries sufficient credibility to interest the regime currently in office!

The Xlinks project is so bonkers I'm not sure if it's insane or genius.

Meanwhile, someone has built a whole WIkipedia page covering the UK's HVDC interconnectors. Its pretty comprehensive.

Following the announcement today of the location for Ripples solar park one post mentioned the X-Link project in relation to Torridge. I didn't have a clue what he was talking about but eventually came across the item below so post here for further scrutiny!

Amazing! it's better to go round Land's end to N Devon than to go straight for the beach somewhere near the Lizard.
https://atlantic-cable.com/CableCos/Porthcurno/ for example... Presumably easy grid connections and lack of built-up or heritage/ protected landscape areas swing it.
2.0 kW/4.62 MWh pa in Ripples, 4.5 kWp W-facing pv, 9.5 kWh batt
30 solar thermal tubes, 2MWh pa in Stockport, plus Congleton and Kinlochbervie Hydros,
Most travel by bike, walking or bus/train. Veg, fruit - and Bees!

Could it just be cheaper to lay an extra few miles of cable undersea than it is to build a few miles overland given the pubic enquiries, nimbys, adverse geography etc?
