I'm only talking about 5 degrees extra which is usable without blending and also increases the effective energy storage capacity of the tank.
Heat pump or immersion hot water?
Re: Heat pump or immersion hot water?
18.7kW PV > 109MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 26MWh generated

Re: Heat pump or immersion hot water?
For storage I get it.
But then that is very hot tap water, is there a scalding risk?
I run our tank at 45c, because it has replaced the tumble dryer.

We make 10kw solar 13kw wind, some bread and lots of beer.
We grow & cook loads.
We eat Fibre, Fat & no Fecking barcodes.
We swear at the heat pump (not strictly true)

Re: Heat pump or immersion hot water?
Its hot but not scalding hot, and most of our outlets have blending taps.
I used to run a smaller tank at a hotter temp with a blending valve, but decided against repeating that with the newer larger tank to make it as simple as possible.

Got it. Getting a bit off-topic on my own thread.
I settled on larger tank & tank blender, for easiness.

New houses now have to have temperature limitation at the tap.

Re: Heat pump or immersion hot water?
I’ve had to repair ASHP at work that are never really off(commercial application)
Cost of this is thousands so anything that gives the ASHP a break is a good idea, so immersion on cheap tariff is compatible to ASHP cop of 3.
Gives mechanical parts time to chill out when using immersion

Re: Heat pump or immersion hot water?
Having read this thread earlier, I was thinking should I turn the ASHP’s off during the summer, when we don’t use any heating, and just let the immersion and solar heat the water.
Not sure if this is a good idea or not, but the heat pump is topping up the feeder tank, through the day, which I assume doesn’t really need topping up if I’m not using any heating….

Re: Heat pump or immersion hot water?
Is a heat pump like a car's air conditioning system? I believe that it needs to be run periodically to lubricate the seals or something, I'm sure my son was told the reason his refrigerant had disappeared was because he hadn't run it.Yuff wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2023 1:19 pm Having read this thread earlier, I was thinking should I turn the ASHP’s off during the summer, when we don’t use any heating, and just let the immersion and solar heat the water.
