Shallow sewer pipe.

#1

Post by ecogeorge »

Have recently moved .
Parking is difficult (read that as shite).
Can get one car on drive but other is parked on street 50 yds away . ( 300 yds if space not available).
Have room in front of house for additional parking space , and have already demolished part of wall to help access to drive .
BUT ...... need to apply for dropped kerb access -happy to do .....
BUT - have a BT surface mount box in pavement -what do i do here ??
Neighbour has a sewer pipe across proposed parking space (very shallow) what is the best/ preferred protection to build a parking space over this ?
thoughts ??

BT: If the box is about 3 x 2 feet they can change the lid and frame to one that will take 'light' traffic (cars), at a cost of course.
Sewer pipe: My gut feel is uncover the pipe over the required area and cover with a suitable thickness of concrete.
Good luck.

Morning George,

How shallow is shallow and what material and diameter is the sewer pipe.

300mm to the pipe crown is the minimum permissible cover depth for small bore sewers.

Google Sewer Sector Guidance to get access to the PDF guidance docs for the UK sewer system, it has a wealth of information regards civil installations of all varieties.

if its at 300mm depth then two parallel concrete beds with beams over or alternately concrete saddles will prevent damage.
