Tesla stops RHD Models S/X

Not really sure what Musk is thinking with this one, but as of now, you now can't buy a right hand drive Model S or X.
They'll now only be delivered in Left Hand Drive only.

This seems completely bizarre. I get that there will be additional manufacturing costs to switch lines from LHD to RHD, but surely EVs are easier to do this on than ICE vehicles? And they do it plenty often for the 3/Y platform.

It also applies to all other right hand drive markets too like Japan, Australia, South Africa, India, Thailand! None of those are exactly tiny backwater economies...

Loads of new Tesla's in the Trafford Centre car park in Manchester. Maybe the penny has dropped of being to expensive for what you actually get.

The refreshed S and X are both impressive vehicles. But they're not alone in their respective markets any more by any stretch of the imagination.
But to simply scrap the RHD completely seems, well, idiotic.

I can’t imagine Tesla sell many S an X models in RHD markets. Seeing as they build RHD and LHD models in different factories, tooling up for something with little demand clearly doesn’t make sense for them.

Does this mean a retreat from the uk RHD market only or a retreat by tesla uk in general?

It seems to be all RHD markets globally for the S/X platform. Very odd.

Tesla make the S and X in Fremont. They shut down and retool for RHD every few months, then shut down and retool back to LHD. Given the sales figures are teeny for S and X models in RHD models it makes sense to stop making them.
