How to mount some old panels on trapezoidal (corrugated) roof?
Re: How to mount some old panels on trapezoidal (corrugated) roof?
So to be sure (ive not done this before)
Are we talking using some sort of spacer in the gully, screwed to the perlins, and then unistrut on top of that?

Re: How to mount some old panels on trapezoidal (corrugated) roof?
I've just had my sheets replaced by the finance company and they have changed the fixings for the pv panels. They were fitted with the bottom type which is a long rail from one end of the array to the other. They now have the short rails that span 3 ridges.
I prefer the long rails.
Spot the installers mistake. Note it's the same mistake that was previously made by the original installer and why the roof sheets were being replaced.

& if you don't plan to leave the property then you may be bitching in 30 years time about sorting the roof out when it was avoidable & cheap by contrast, ..do it once do it properly & don't create more consumer problems for the next people to resolve.julianf wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 10:31 am I'm not too fussed about corrosion.
The roof is on s single story building that's entirely accessible and it's not s high value roof. Sure, I don't want it to rust out, but, at the same time, I don't want to procrastinate for ever whilst the panels could be generating power.
I have a landrover or two. The dissimilar metals thing is an issue but (in my personal experience) we are talking decades rather than months.
If you have the solution you can make the choice (costed) otherwise its an uninformed bodge.

That's a bummer. Some panels let you go from either side. But there are usually zones that the clamps have to be in. Another new roof for you then?

I'm loosing the will to live and it just backs up what I often say about people having the paperwork to enable them to do something but not the ability.
It's gone from;
to, fitted correctly (well very nearly) but holes in the sheets ;
to no holes in the sheets but fitted incorrectly. I'd even said to the installer, the day before, that the panels had previously been fitted incorrectly with the clips on the short side.

What system did they use for the rails? That roof looks like what I will have in a few weeks time.

Re: How to mount some old panels on trapezoidal (corrugated) roof?
To be clear: it is not the steel roof that will corrode. The connection to the aluminium in the panels actually protects the steel. The aluminium on the other hand will corrode galvanically.Mr Gus wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 1:10 pm& if you don't plan to leave the property then you may be bitching in 30 years time about sorting the roof out when it was avoidable & cheap by contrast, ..do it once do it properly & don't create more consumer problems for the next people to resolve.julianf wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 10:31 am I'm not too fussed about corrosion.
