Had some excellent work today on a most simple RE device. This will be our upcycled garage roof hung airer. Not very big but will hold 6 large bath towels which will in turn free up room on the folding airer for Winter WBS drying. The garage door is open dawn to dusk, I think this is a winner? Will leave for paint and varnish to cure overnight the do a bit more tomorrow.

I wonder how many kWh's such a simple device will save us? Also got sticky red cabbage cooking on WBS and the chilli tatties were parboiled. Summer? Where?

Not bad for a pile of sticks and end pieces spotted by swmbo stuck away in a corner of a recycling yard? I've put together the ropes, eyebolts, brake washers, pull handle, upper beam and up position hang off caribeiner from the various upcycle sites at our own home.

Thanks! I tried to raise it a little to engineers type art in the style of the Wombles and a nod towards a Buddhist Bell hammer I tried at a temple in Osaka suburbs.

Good fun and will take advantage of the second most abundant Scottish resource while protecting it from the first.

The bonus is that swmbo rates it.

It has been a strange start to July, lots of cloud, some rain and a shutdown commercial wind turbine.

Personally, it brings into sharp focus the benefits of fallback positions. In my case a well trimmed base background load and power efficient routines. Well aware I sound like a boring old fart (there may well be a reality to face)!

The WBS does the 4pm onward heavy lifting when it's 13deg outdoors as it is today. It also cooks for us completely or at worst does the majority. The induction hob then finishes off with the air fryer clearing up as required. The oven has become a bit of a relic (damn, it's only 18 months old).

Writing this more for people newer to this. A lot can be done outside of the traditional PV on the roof before you get to that.

I continue to reflect of ClockmanFRA's throwaway line to me. 'A minimum of 1kW incoming'. we have certainly been living that recently!

Tonight it is sticky red cabbage (90%WBS), mustard mash (98%WBS) & pork sausages (100% airfryer).

Anyway, the grid is not being touched, the gas has cobwebs on it. Interested to read of anyone else's grid avoidance techniques?

Thanks Iain, I look forward to experiencing that. The old RE lifestyle appears to have swallowed us whole! It's quite handy as I like to measure myself against something and being in early retirement I can kid myself along that I'm still active and engaged.

Another useful grid avoidance unit is replacing the mains powered vacuum with a battery powered vacuum cleaner which you can charge when you have spare incoming solar power. In our house with the kids and the dogs hoovering is a daily task and the battery deployed unit saves around £73 each year. They are relatively cheap to buy or you can get lucky and get them on Freecycle quite often.

Liking the pulley maid, we have had one for 12 years which is located in the lounge next to the inglenook and is never without something on it drying.
