Toyota Battery.
Toyota Battery.
Toyota says it has made a technological breakthrough that will allow it to halve the weight, size and cost of batteries, in what could herald a major advance for electric vehicles.
Kaita said the company had developed ways to make batteries more durable and believed it could now make a solid-state battery with a range of 1,200km (745 miles) that could charge in 10 minutes or less.

Re: Toyota Battery.
Still three to four years away from a prototype according to the article, in the mean time the rest of the industry marches on and presumably Toyota fall further down the ranks, and if the battery turns out not to be as good as touted or even not viable would the backlash see Toyota ruined ?

Re: Toyota Battery.
Whilst you are right that it could be a flip of the coin rejuvenation / damnation for toyota cars, they are a diverse brand a non lead acid fork truck (of which they sell lots being the worlds no1 in that field) for instance, how this would re-shape design & weight distribution I do not know, but surely they have plans afoot, so who knows..

If it charges with a 13 Amp plug in ten minuets and does 745 miles. Im In.
Re: Toyota Battery.
My back of fag packet maths would suggest a battery size of 150kWh and a charger power of approaching 1MW.
18.7kW PV > 109MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 26MWh generated

40kWh Thermal storage

Re: Toyota Battery.
But ..... bear in mind they said pretty much the same thing in 2017, and expected to deliver in 5yrs. [Correction - I think they said in 2017 it might be ready for 2020, and it was in 2020, that they suggested 2021/22. Now in 2023 its 2025. They may just be trying to 'Osborne' the competition. M.]
Most manufacturers just build BEV's, and keep changing to better batteries, as and when they get developed.

Toyota’s new solid-state battery could make its way to cars by 2020
Toyota is touting its progress on a new kind of battery technology, which uses a solid electrolyte instead of the conventional semi-liquid version used in today’s lithium-ion batteries. The car maker said that it’s near a breakthrough in production engineering that could help it put the new tech in production electric vehicles as early as 2020, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Re: Toyota Battery.
That's doable I suppose, if you have a 77kV supply!
[Edit - I mean, to meet Alan D's 13A plug requirement. Probably get a bit warm though. M.]
