If I was buying a charging point now 100% I’d go for a Zappi. I’ll swap mine for a Zappi at some point.

Right now I have a cheapo Rolec that I’ve modified:

• To be “smart”, by having the power to the control unit go through a smartplug (the charge current doesn’t go through the smartplug).

• To be switchable between 1.4kW and 7.4kW (this is just a resistor value). I use 1.4kW in the daytime to use some excess solar and 7.4kW when I need charge quick or during off-peak.

(The charger is doing nothing right now because the PHEV has gone and the BEV isn’t here yet.)

As a crude clanky I'm just looking for a charger that can be slider live controlled even if that is a per kW click? Once I'm dialled in.on the unit I'll ask him nicely to get involved.

Even though I am committed to making myself live in a better way it's hard to see the 7.5k loss on 'not selling Shell in Crete & going on Y st/by' compared to share price today. This margin shall widen i think. I am luckily playing both sides of the fence so doing well off the ramp up on oil price and mostly managing to assuage the guilt by swapping Shell for Tesla MY.

Ordering this car today has been a massive step outside of who I used to be. I have shaded the deal slightly by ordering in easy clean regime colour. Will help on resale too, no doubt. Yet legit longterm thinking is I hope in action and I'll keep it for years.. It's weird and i'm getting stronger on these thoughts as time goes by. Totally agree. I've learnt so much about renewables having simply joined 10(ish)yrs ago to chat about PV. So interesting to learn about the problems of small scale wind generation, but the massive gains with larger scale, and then to see the progress made.

10yrs ago RE leccy was expensive (if we ignored the externality costs of FF's), and there didn't seem much of a solution to addressing other sectors like transport and space heating. Now we have the roll out of BEV's, with exponential growth, heatpumps making (slow) progress, and off-shore wind coming in with truly amazing prices and capacity factors. I almost forgot the move from CFL's to LED's over that time too, and their subsequent drop in price, and very large, but very low power LED TV's.

I appreciate that we are massively behind the curve regarding AGW, but at least I now believe we are in the fight, and can reduce the final damage.


Oh, and the big news ....... apparently Tesla Cardiff have a TMY in their showroom. I might have to make a very long trip today, hope I've got 1% charge available.

I stand amazed at how far we can eke out the power of a single 100W incandescent light bulb. These days we can light multiple rooms from that single source.

I'm discharging home battery slightly but thats full so need some empty space in it to continue charging it up when we go for a drive through the New Forest.

Zen is confirming its getting the charge.


And my house power monitor is showing no import form the grid.

Thanks Nowty, I will have a good look when home next week and can view the pics. Heard back from my mate from offshore and he's doing the course in Nov so can then offer the grant for EV charger.

Read up a little on gigashanghai, exported 8,210 MY's to Europe in July. They should be well dialled in by the time my one goes down the line! Were you happy with the QC on your 3? Paintwork in particular?
