Geely TX BEV London taxi..
Geely TX BEV London taxi..
I know we were all disappointed with the hybrid that came out some years ago, but now as fully electric.. things have changed whilst demanding that time & traditional looks (familiarity) stays the same..
6500 TX model variant now on the road...
81 miles range, 30 mins charging, bonded aluminium chassis.

Re: Geely TX BEV London taxi..
Are you saying there is now a 100% BEV taxi. That video does not refer to it nor can i get google either. Please clarify.
I am not sure a BEV taxi would not be a bit high risk re range.

Re: Geely TX BEV London taxi..
It's still a range-extender hybrid as far as I can tell. The petrol engine acts purely as a generator so doesn't drive the wheels.
It's actually based on the Volvo XC90 as a platform.
Makes me wonder why they haven't developed a full electric version by now given their parent company is Geely so they have access to all of the Polestar tech

Re: Geely TX BEV London taxi..
Ken, this BEV slid into production around 2018, it is the range extender which is a small 1.5 litre petrol design.
You are correct, the "E-city" badge got me, & on the video above there is no mention of an I3 type engine in the design, somewhat misleading.
My understanding of the hybrid taxi from the outset was low level (normal) speed operations, not the ability to coast on 100% electric for 80 odd miles.
On the bbc in late march, there were moans that the modern taxi was cheaper to run on petrol than charging due to the majority of owner drivers not having driveway charging at home & thus being reliant on the high cost of fast chargers, which confuses matters also, because unless laws change (ha) I cannot see london reserving parking outside taxi drivers homes & fitting them "exclusive use" chargers

Time though for London to get the house to street charger situation sorted with the street pavement strips taken over & installed by council install teams rather than tie it up in paperwork.

Re: Geely TX BEV London taxi..
Yes dan, that is what I incorrectly guessed it to be.. sad & crazy that it isn't!
When there is bugger all mention of an engine involved & everything is referred to as electric, you imagine it has been stepped up, ...

Re: Geely TX BEV London taxi..
When running a taxi in such a non predictive way then i would want what they have but for private use i prefer 100% BEV.
