New knife law "update" throws us into further turmoil..
Recommend you watch the whole thing for clarity.
Even more blurring of the lines, I have experienced the same with looser (time worn) pivot points on work use knives that subsequently get questionable, uninformed opinions from police (always a hassle & may go on a profile of you / the encounter)
It was bad before, it is now worse for EDC which the police still do not understand with clarity.
This video lays things out well, & a penknife is often a handy working tool...

Re: New knife law "update" throws us into further turmoil..
I find it hard to have much sympathy with someone who finds it necessary to have 50 of one particular type of knife. (about 17 mins into the video)
Re: New knife law "update" throws us into further turmoil..
Do not follow your logic, there is a big difference between collecting knives as specialist tools, or because you like them & see the different attributes & purposes, enough ...& using them for unwarranted purposes..
The guy is clearly ex military, so see's purpose in design & selective use which is doubtless part of the hobby.
Do you follow the logic of the stupid copper then? in which case yes all cars should be removed from people because of what they "might" do with a car in the future.
Food, a choking hazard.
Shoes, only one set of feet... etc.
You are nit picking, point of the video is to highlight the lack of clarity in law (oh there's a first right) because the more folk you put off the less potential trouble you imagine there to be.
How much sharp cutlery do you own, .."too many"?
More kitchen knives are used to stab people with than anything (remember)?
One "type" may have many different form factors.
And when the law wishes to redefine what it has passed on a whim of measurement, obfuscating the law further in order to put people off honest reasonable compliant ownership, is that right? ..because that's what we got.

Re: New knife law "update" throws us into further turmoil..
Knife laws are a mess. Urban crime is out of control. Meanwhile ordinary folk going about their business could suffer serious consequences if they encounter a police officer in a bad mood.
For me the focus shouldn't be on the knife. The focus should be on bringing criminals into society by getting them good jobs and decent housing.

No turmoil for me, I don’t carry a knife.

Nor me and I do, it is 1.5" long and part of a multitool with pliers and screwdrivers, I use it frequently and the knife is sufficient for most unplanned work.

I'm a bit of an outdoorsman. I often carry a 4" fixed blade knife when backpacking/hiking. Would a judge accept my explanation? Who knows?

Hear hear Stinsy, couldn't agree more.Stinsy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 2:45 pm Knife laws are a mess. Urban crime is out of control. Meanwhile ordinary folk going about their business could suffer serious consequences if they encounter a police officer in a bad mood.

The GOVT and others spend a lot of time, money and effort into marginalising some groups of people, if we treat them like shyte and exclude them from the good things society has to offer, why should they follow societies rules?
We should all be working to help and look after each other rather than running a rat-race.

Re: New knife law, MORE speculation on that turmoil..
I use bill-hooks, always have, & these now may be at risk of ban...
Watch the whole thing to understand but particular attention from 7 mins in..
(i'm safer with a bill-hook than I am with an axe / hatchet) better balance & control.
As the narrator says "police over-reach" potential.
Best ban baseball & rounders bats..

Yes you may use a bill hook and I use an axe to chop wood, but I don’t go into Tesco with it swinging it about.
Don’t go looking for problems.
