Dan, are you sharing any of this data with a "tame" council staff member in your immediate / wider locale? ..I think it would be beneficial to get some "live" networked examples of what is going on & the import / office use data.

Your knowledge as the "over-seer" with knowledge, compared to someone merely appointed to regurgitate figures & tech they don't necessarily understand is obvious as to getting "proper" info out there (likely wouldn't do harm to have your council onside for future works *cough* )

Hi Dan,

I thought I would fudge around the figures to get an idea of if this was really practical and I suspect your figures will be much more informative BUT if I have been overly conservative in my estimates for savings then I really do think this has benefits for the business.

Lets for argument say the nocturnal ambient power savings are 2 kWh a night, and I have determined that a suppliers equipment bundle is possibly best value and I used Bimble as typical of what's available - other suppliers and manufacturers equipment and buying separate may be cheaper or recommended by others but I have gone with what I know for now:

Pylon 2.4kWh US2000C Plus LiFePO Battery - 48V Lithium x 2

Solis Energy Storage 3.0kW Hybrid 5G Inverter x 1

Pylon Battery Mounting Bracket for US2000 - Pair x2

DC Fused Disconnect 2-pole NH00 or NH000 size, M8 fixings, 160A DC max x1

Pylon Batteries DC Cable Pack 25mm - x 1

80A fuse NH000, 250VDC for NH00 DC Fuse Disconnect x 2

£2,870.

Assuming a unit rate of 30p thats 60p per night or £219 a year, which doesn't look financially acceptable as a business investment until you factor in the in day balancing that you could obtain from the system.

I'm not familiar with your office set up but I recall you saying in a previous thread that you still import from time to time thus the extra 3kW from the inverter could be suggested as contributing another 2kWh reduction to a working days import. Lets assume 248 working days in the average year giving a further £149. So by my estimates thats 7.8 years to recoup your outlay which for my business would be acceptable in and of itself, but I haven't accounted for any reduction in corporation tax or the fact that you can use the system as a UPS to allow bits of the business to work in the event of a power outage by using the separate critical loads power supply from the Inverter. Obviously theres the cost to install but I got my electrical engineer to fit the AC supply cable from the consumer unit to the isolator and the AC in at the Inverter which was a minor cost and I did the DC side of the install myself.

I'm hopeful that you get similar or better figures and obviously with Pylon batteries you have the option to add additional storage later as you may find beneficial, on that point I am just waiting to see how much Colin's DIY battery will be to buy as I was contemplating a further 7kWh of battery to the existing set up to improve the UPS resilience for my business as we are experiencing more frequent power outages where I live recently.

So the in day peak loping that could be provided by a battery system is the deciding factor in whether it will be a financially sensible investment for the business then.

Moxi, another factor is the storage over the weekend for use the next week (and Dan also three EV but I don't know if they are present at the weekend or on staff members drivers).

My results for July were:

Total generation: 436kWh

Daily average: 14kWh

Generation per kWp: 112.6kWh

Daily average per kWp: 3.6kWh

PVGIS: 377kWh

Didn't think it had been that great up here but total was 3kWh above the average over 13 years.
