EV trip to Amsterdam
EV trip to Amsterdam
So I’m off on my travels again!
Today I’ve just arrived in Amsterdam.
Left SW London at 7.30am with 91% charge.
Got to Folkestone at about 9am at 60% SoC, on a Flex Plus ticket, and forgot there’s no Supercharger at the Flex Plus station. No matter…
A fair drive or so takes us to a V3 SuC at “Brugge” in Belgium and arrived with 20%. SatNav says to charge to 80% which would take us all the way to Amsterdam - so a 30 min charge stop. I end up taking it to 90% just in case.
The next leg was a rather boring 3.5 hour stint all the way - but past mile upon mile of lines of wind turbines alongside the highways. Impressive.
Anyway ended up arriving with 32% Vs an estimated 25% SoC. Could have made a shorter stop earlier.
Now here for 6 days so will find some destination charging at some pint. 9 hours door to door (including the time zone change).

Tesla V4 charging station opens
Seeing as Dan's away and he normally brings such matters to our collective attention I thought I would paste this here - he might want to use it on his way home ??

Re: EV trip to Amsterdam
If he has 6 days, a ‘granny charger’ might well suffice?
Re the longer 90% charge -the fastest journey time is charging at around 20% and not beyond 80% for most long multiple-charge journeys? Assuming no waiting time, of course.

Re: EV trip to Amsterdam
My hotel is next to a 4 bay rapid charger. But I managed to blag a free 220v “EV socket” in the hotel car park so yes am granny charging for the duration!

Is this true ? if so its a free charge for anyone near enough to a Tesla charger to take advantage also a very nice gesture from Tesla.

It is true - my charge at Calais just now was completely free!

Re: EV trip to Amsterdam
So I'm back!
Set off from Amsterdam with a full 100% charge courtesy of the hotel granny charger. As such I was able to make it all the way to Calais before needing to recharge - 227 mile stint consuming 64kWh at an average of 282Wh/mile. I actually stopped on this leg for a bio break anyway but didn't need any electrons.
Arrived there with about 15% SoC left and seeing as it was a free Supercharge, I pumped it back up to 80% - arrived home in London with about 30% SoC left and therefore plenty to get to the office this morning and refuel on the company solar panels.
The annoying thing was the 90min queue for Border Controls at Calais. But hey, I got a stamp in my black passport.
661 miles in total, 189kWh consumed at an average of 286Wh/mile.

Re: EV trip to Amsterdam
In an ICE car at say 35 kWh per gallon and 30 mpg.
I've calculated that the same drive in an ICE car would have used about 770kWh worth of petrol, maybe even more as you were caning it.
