Balcony solar PV

Well I might be going to Germany for a few days in February and would probably take the Tesla for that...

After 600 or so posts, is there a way to summarise whether these things are any good?

Just wondering about whether to spend a potential Christmas bonus on a balcony solar PV with battery set-up for next year - I miss not having solar to play with at home!

They are great Dan. Any plans to drive back to Holland? Could pick up from their and bypass the landing taxes. I will likely fit another Hoymiles to my own place next year.

Just looking at this kit - looks like a hybrid inverter with an onboard battery - does it simply plug into a regular (outdoor spec) 13A socket?
What's the price?

For a slightly different take on the balcony solar - I got this mail from sunsynk today - plug in system with 2kWh battery built in - limited to 800w for UK. Comes with its own ct coil. No idea about cost, but good that systems are being developed with UK in mind

That system on the face of it (plug and play) is no more compatible with UK wiring legislation than any of the other systems discussed elsewhere on this thread. I don't see anything to suggest it is built with UK in mind, it is more built to the standards that exist in most of Europe (800W (600W for Germany) without needing approval from network operator though you still need to inform them).

The continental version (low powered) does plug into a socket and the CT clamp is a wireless affair.

The UK version will be a more mainstream bit of kit according to this video, so probably not unless you wish to use that form of grid connection.

Just checked No1's hoymiles array while splitting kindling. He has 220Wh and rising which is great. By the time I'm finished typing there will be enough generation to run his low W panel heater and background load without grid.

As Nowty said the vertical panel is the star of the show at this time of year.

Mine arrived yesterday. Has been on with four 480w panels today.
The highest A.C. current I got was 4 amps. No shade. South facing.
Was expecting a bit more.

Any one know of any software available. ?

I registered with Hoymiles while in Italy so have some access although not full. Your best bet would be to download the app and register when abroad in a qualifying country. The other and simpler option would be to buy a cheap meter and install as I did for Enphase system. Until Hoymiles are openly available in UK I'm afraid we are stuck with workarounds but the power still flows.

I also thought I'd try the mobile folding panel on my battery pack. Started at 33% soc.

I have fitted one but its in the garage about 150 ft from the house.


I will have to put up a small Man Tent outside the garage toooo keep an Eye on the readings.

Will look into if the software can be got hold off.
