Admirable restraint there Mart, admirable. It is indeed a hell of a stonner and it broke me. Voltarol and a strong hot shower (solar charged of course) the noo and we'll crack on again tomorrow.I can now claim I've got excellent wood.

Need a deep workshop tidy and a wee think about rafters, slots etc before going haring into it. I think I may have been possesed by Kenneth Williams in this couple of paragraphs.

This is the most technically challenging and time consuming 3 panel string I've installed.

Very happy though as in my head it is SWMBO's bootroom that so happens to have an electricity generating roof cover.

I'll work on the remaining bracket shaping tomorrow and get them installed.

I bought some excellent, wee M4.2 40mm selftapping hex head screws, coupled with the M5 25mm dia penny washers (both in s/s). I think I'll be able to use them as multipurpose anchors in the build. Also have the M4.2's in 25mm length which will let me eventually pin down the panels through their lower flat face into the timbers the panels will be resting on.

Well that was a 'feel like an old guy' start to the day. Turns out the hex head screws are a traditional 1/4" hex head size (same as bit driver adapter for drills). Went off to the local motor factor and they had ZERO Imperial spanners or sockets. I checked 3 times as I'm a bit too quick to snap decide.

Nope, none at all unless I spent £80 on a tool set. WTF is that about?

Amazon saved me so a 1/4" combi and a 1/4" ratchet spanner are currently winging their way towards us. Made up a couple of brackets and then since i didn't have the tightening tools I was seduced by big wood (Mart).

Broke out the most terrifying diy tool in my collection, the tablesaw! Did a wee bit of ripping and got a couple of timbers in place. Its starting to take shape and SWMBO was walking about with a big grin, which was excellent to see.

I now need to find some stainless patio anchors so I can fix to lower horizontal timbers above the patio surface by 10mm or so. If anyone knows of such things i'd appreciate the help?

Joe, have you checked out SS fittings from a yacht fitters (? Chandlers ).

eBay does have a good selection of fittings for marine use and/or creating an external balustrade, if that would do the job.
