Charge Amps for pylontech

#1

Post by Moxi »

Just checking with the hive mind please.

I have four pylontechs 3000c. Data sheet says charge amps continuous is 37Amps, I have my DoD at 20% to give the battery an easy life so I only need to charge 11.2kW.

Charger is a Solis 3.6 hybrid with 62Amp capacity, my cheap rate slot is 5 hrs, am I right in thinking that a lower amperage charge over the available 5 hour slot is easier on everything ie charge at 47 amps rather than the 62 amp capacity?

It’s my first night trying this rather than just relying on Solar so be gentle.

I thought it was 37 amps per battery, so with four batteries the max input was 158 amps.

In other words, yes, less is better, but the inverter has a point where it is more efficient (I think it's often around the 50% to 70% range), and even if you set it to max I don't think the batteries are going to get stressed.
Solar PV: 6.4kW solar PV (Eurener MEPV 400W*16)
PV Inverter: Solis 6kW inverter
Batteries: 14.4kWh LiFePO4 batteries (Pylontech US5000*3)
Battery Inverter: LuxPowertek 3600 ACS*2
EV: Hyundai Kona 65kWh
WBS: 8kW Hunter Avalon 6 Multifuel burner (wood only)

Thanks Krill,

Yeah the 37 amps is per battery, I hadn’t thought about a sweet spot regards efficiency but when I was setting the charge time just now the charge Amps were preset at 50 Amps so I have left it there as it’s not going to stress cables, inverter or as you say the battery.

Next task is to schedule the EV - hopefully as simple as the inverter appears to have been- still going to set my alarm for half twelve to check though ;)

I wouldn’t stress it. 37A is c. 0.5C which is very low indeed. Don’t forget LiFePO4 calls in BEVs are charged at 200kW (something like 4C) albeit with active cooling.
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Well that was an interesting night, glad I set the alarm for half twelve to check stuff.

Straight out of the box the EV 6 started and stopped its scheduled charge bang on time - result!

The washing machine also performed its scheduled start flawlessly.

My much loved Solis didn’t fare so well- twenty minutes on the app trying to start the charge and checking the settings didn’t help so I popped out to the power shed and went in manually through all the same settings as the app and found the time to charge page still had the grid charge in stop position, a quick change and we weee in action at 5 past 1, on the app that parameter was enabled but obviously hadn’t translated across the cloud to a real set point. No problems it’s done now and ready for tomorrow’s charge.

As I was up and not fully trusting myself I sat for another twenty minutes watching the battery begin its climb from 20% upwards and since the washer was finished by then I earned some house points by loading the hp tumble dryer on cool dry setting and starting it, non suitable clothes were loaded on to the pulley maid and the dehumidifier sat beneath them on dry clothes for three hours.

Then back to bed, I even woke at six am without any assistance to check the car and battery had completed, again the car has worked as scheduled and this time I was pleased to see the battery had completed its charge just after five and had sat patiently to commence its discharge at 5:30 so that bit worked as indicated.

We are now sat with very overcast hill cloud over us and a mighty 75 watts going to the battery which has been sat static at 88% after the breakfast rush.

Had the battery charge at 50 amps due to the slightly delayed start but very happy with it all.
