I wonder when/if Tomato and the like will pressure Octopus to put the cheap price down to 5p/kWh?
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

If that carries on across the year, that will have reduced our electricity costs by about £2k - not to be sniffed at!
I hope your boss remembers all your efforts Dan, you’re doing a cracking job to lower the business costs and give them better carbon credentials.

I agree, Box Bear is a good story.
Meanwhile, SWMBO just noticed some Daily Express clickbait (which she read out but ignored) an "Octopus zero" tarrif. A quick Google produced https://octopus.energy/blog/introducing-octopus-zero/ which seems to be a month old.
We've just launched Octopus Zero Bills, the next generation energy tariff with zero energy bills for at least five years, guaranteed, for new homes kitted out with the right combination of solar panels, home battery and heat pump. It’s not magic, but could just as well be. If you live in a brand new, specially built Zero Bills home, you'll not receive an energy bill - no costs, no worries.
We’re calling on housing developers across the UK to make Zero Bills the new standard. If that's you and want to find out more, click here to assess your eligibility.
which I thought was interesting. How come committed people and companies are having to do what the govt. should be doing?
2.0 kW/4.62 MWh pa in Ripples, 4.5 kWp W-facing pv, 9.5 kWh batt
30 solar thermal tubes, 2MWh pa in Stockport, plus Congleton and Kinlochbervie Hydros,
Most travel by bike, walking or bus/train. Veg, fruit - and Bees!

I saw that a few weeks ago and wrongly thought it had been a discussion on here before then ?

I would have liked this idea to be applicable to retrofit homes too - so anyone who undertakes to reach a minimum standard of upgrades to their property can then benefit - if necessary it could I suppose be linked to the EPC - not that many of us here have confidence in the efficacy of that but its what the Gov seem hell bent on using.

I think they say somewhere it's currently a start-up thing, watch this space for retrofits...

IIRC Octopus built a whole housing estate with: Good insulation, HPs, and solar. The idea is that you export in summer and import in winter. With the headline-grabbing promise of "Zero Bills".

As us lot on here know: zero bills should be pretty easy! Most of us would manage cash-positive bills if we were building a house from scratch!

If you consume what OFGEM say you should: 2700kWh of electric and 11500kWh of gas then that translates as 5000kWh of energy consumption with a HP (assuming 80% gas boiler efficiency and HP CoP of 4). A 5kWp array would provide that much energy over a year.

That is without better insulation and without buying at 7p and selling at 15p.
