Joe, how do you find heat to the room/responsiveness of the stove with the additional mass.

Presuming it’s making heating up (and cooling down) a much flatter and smoother curve over the day - recognise this’ll probably be a ‘feel’ thing without pre and post mass continual temp monitoring

It's fine. There is a one hour lag on fire up as the mass heats. The room continues to heat up OK just not at the previous speed. After that it's ll good as the mass is emitting along with the firebox. One bonus is that I can easily let the firebox die down if I am outside working and the mass just keeps working. A flattened curve for sure overall. It's great to come down in the morning to a room that's not cold. Last morning check a couple of days ago the mass was at 36 degs and the room was 16.7degs. :)

I'll show the slate going in when we get them. No downside to this, loving it!

Nature took its course. The adhesive properties on fire cement to logs was not so great. A couple of logs popped off. Likely due to shrinkage in the material. Went back to black on one side. Will do the other tomorrow. Bought a set of 4 table setting black slate off of the bay 2nd hand. Will finish off the cooking surface extension on their arrival. Sausage casserole, doughballs, tatties and Neeps on the go at the moment.

Storm Arwen knocked power and water off in areas up here for a couple of days. Very glad to be self sufficient enough to cover any utility losses. Take into account Bellorussias triade on stopping gas export due to Migrant movements and i'm glad i've got this zero moving parts bit of kit. 8-)

Christmas dinner will be a less stressful experience with 4 pot capacity on the stove top. Ho-ho-ho! :)

We are now GCH on for about an hour per 24 at minus 3 deg's. Early night last night as knacked after Belfast (brilliant city). Topped stove off at 20.30 hrs and thermal mass was still putting out at 28 deg's at 08.00 hrs today.

I don't think the black bricks look bad at all...
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Black looks ok, Joe. I also feel happier you’ve ‘lost’ the wood on the sides.

If they stay on, from an aesthetic perspective, would be worth keeping the ones in the log store area, which, if it’s like ours, won’t get too hot.

We piled logs around the WBS for years the only time there was a concern was if there was a shift / dropped log on the rear flue exiting the stove back, (obviously concentrated flow of heat) the stove is cast iron with s/steel sides, we made sure we were always around "in case" regardless, but it was a good way to ensure bone dry from logs brought in & allow any insects to get away (be picked up & returned to the drop off zone)

Much the same here, a 3 stage process culminating in catch and release. Sent my meter readings in this morning. Electricity is WAY up due to almost no solar and charging the EV fully at home. On the other hand, the gas consumption on a Nov 20 to Nov 21 comparison has dropped from 2,299kWh to 1,089kWh. 1,210kWh gas NOT burned at Casa de this November. :o :D

Over the moon with that, No idea how much larger the electricity bill would have been if not for the offsetting through stove use. Full on EV use this year has killed any like for like comparison. Today I made a Beef based Scotch Broth, My son is coming round after work for a huge bowl to take to work tomorrow. Doesn't get better than that for me. The stoves reach is growing! :D 8-)
