Thats an interesting development, long overdue too, I wonder what the octopod will roll out as their offering ? That could become the summertime default tariff when the panels are enough to run the home.

The cynical part of me thinks they will just add a termination charge to prevent chopping and changing tariffs.

Brilliant!

The market is starting to function!
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Octopus has a no standing charge tariff already but it's a business-only deal at the moment.

Thanks, I couldn't put a link in as I was using my phone and was in the BBC app.

Fantastic news. Our last monthly gas bill was £5.51 gas plus £8.79 standing charges.

Our winter leccy bill might not improve, as increased charge rate will probably off-set SC savings (£18.30). But in the sunnier 7 to 8 months, we should gain massively too.

This will benefit all low users, and improve the benefits from energy efficiency, PV etc, by shifting SC costs onto leccy unit costs, that can then be reduced.
8.7kWp PV [2.12kWp SSW + 4.61kWp ESE PV + 2.0kWp WNW PV]
Two BEV's.
Two small A2A heatpumps.
20kWh Battery storage.

I did look at moving supplier to UtilitySomethingOrOther who do offer a zero standing charge tariff but charge a higher rate for the first two units a day. Would be slightly cheaper over the year for me but it was only for a pre-payment meter and I don't want to go down that road...

I was very miffed when Ebico were forced to stop their zero-standing-charge tariff(s). Around 2018 approx.

I can't remember exactly why, but vaguely remember it was ordered by the regulator and related to the Price-Capping-Regime.

Ebico Zero (tariff) was charging 17p per kWh at the time.

IMO. the ONLY way to get most people to cut their energy usage is to reward them with a significant money-value incentive. . . . Providing a survivable world for future generations just doesn't seem to cut through . . . . which is very, very strange !
