ASHP & triple glazing
Re: ASHP & triple glazing
I shot one off a birdtable a couple of weeks back. It was up and at the fat balls in hangers. Not seen that before as it was full daylight. Got one out in Turkey too. Steel trap plus coagulant poison and 6 days to get that one. Peanut butter was the lure.
Best of luck Andy, kill em all!

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
We had chickens and still have rats as there is an entrance to a culvert at the foot of our garden. My son introduced me to Fenn traps and the tunnels that ensure they only get the target species. https://www.trapman.co.uk/store/product ... y-trapman/ is a fancy tunnel, mine are just made of treated wood planks - and there is a squirrel-specific tunnel too. Mine worked again a few weeks ago.

Weather is letting up a little. Decided to clear the accessible panels and had 1kW incoming for a wee while. Hugely satisfying as I tapped one corner of an 8 panel section and the whole lot slid straight off, joy!

Hows the seal between the boot room panels holding up JB ?

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
Not great, I've pumped some silicone in to help. We were sitting out there this morning bundled up enjoying the air. We get a few drips if it's belting down but that's about the only drama.

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
do you think thats down to the rubber seal contracting in the colder weather ?
I'm plotting a lean to shed against the bunker later in the year and as part of that I was going to use some 500W panels (4 off if I can make it work) to make the south facing roof so I have been thinking about the issue of sealing panels with the obvious problem of thermal expansion and contraction being one of those niggles. It doesn't have to be water tight but it would be nice/ more useful as a space if it was.
I think I might have a solution of sorts - using 2 or 3 inch gutter suspended below the panel joint (wire over into the panel frame channel ) and piped to the ground at the low end via 1/2" polypipe, I was going to mock up the fitting on my two panel south array in spring to work out the details - but basically is a hidden gully drain like you get between two roof's.

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
That sounds like a good solution. I'm looking at timber movement opened up the gaps slightly. None of the furniture or cushions in there is ever wet just not a 100% bonedry seal. If I did it again I'd likely pump the gaps full of roof/gutter flexible sealant and call it done. It is great to have the extra space for living as well.as the extra power produced on poor days.Moxi wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 2:52 pm do you think thats down to the rubber seal contracting in the colder weather ?

I vividly remember Winter days with a couple of hundred Watts incoming. With all the extra bits & bobs installed we regularly see 1kW on those same Winter days. OK it might drop to 500W but rarely below that when production is possible. As I've said before, we can do a lot with 500W whereas a couple of hundred is a bit of a wet fart.

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
We have now settled on 65 deg dhw and it running 3 times per day. This equates to happiness
At 1deg we are over 3.2 again for cop with that extra load on and over 4 with no dhw influence. I thought heat pumps were pish?
SWMBO mentioned seeing on social media a comment with someone saying it cost them £1,200.in Dec to heat an 1800's house. No further property details, nonetheless.....£1,200.

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
It seems to have coped well with a very cold spell of weather which if we are honest is becoming quite unusual for the uk. We are a damp 2 degrees at the minutes, car charged house stack full and 3 hours of top up resistance heating in the early hours equates to 28kWh used for the day.
I see another period of colder weather is about to settle over us ( North Wales at least ) so higher energy consumption will continue for some time to come here at least but on good days the house is back to around 7 to 8 kWh including cooking which is all electric these days.
Washing and hp tumble dryer run on tonight’s vanilla has just been requested by the manager too.
Bagged another juvenile rat last night and saw another set of eyes just as I had decocked the rifle and removed the magazine so still some work to do. Hope Andy had some luck with his pests last night. JB what rifle do you have ?

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
It'll be great when you have the extra panels on and see the grid usage fall further. The rifle was a beeman .22 spring at a mates house.Moxi wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 8:31 am It seems to have coped well with a very cold spell of weather which if we are honest is becoming quite unusual for the uk. We are still chewing through 50 to 60kWhs per day, That includes a tiny bit of export too. Snow is off the panels so hopefully see a few kWhs produced today. Will have to do a PV meter check today and see what last couple of months brought in. If I had rats of any volume I'd throw everything at it, traps, bait and shooting. Knock the population down ASAP.
I am still amazed at what this unit does.
That's the oem monitor system count since it went live. I think that was about 13th Dec by the time i worked it out and got it online? Definitely challenging weather conditions and as I said earlier, we run our dhw more than the average HP owner. That has a big impact on the cop. We are very happy indeed with the results.
