Big roof solar - sharing power...
Re: Big roof solar - sharing power...
We have 4kw of panels on a steel profile chicken house roof so I feel I should point out that production will drop a lot in a good sunny spell, the panels don't like being too hot. I didn't believe our installers when they came up with the reason for the carp output so I put a lawn sprinkler on the roof to cool things down and production increased but not enough to cover the cost of running the borehole pumps.
Re: Big roof solar - sharing power...
Sadly we couldn't make the numbers add up for replacing the roof. It's a steel skin on top of the original felted roof although heat and cold are an issue it was a lot of money for minimal return.
I think straight export at 15p kWh sounds very sensible.

Have you read this: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source= ... Jv2ZyXdYao
As the group might be able to export electricity under the excempt category.
It might also be worth checking if the DNO would allow export of more than 16A per phase since you appear to have enough roof space to generate more.

A petition? How democratic! I may express my right to join the unheard majority!robl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 9:47 am There's a petition to allow local selling of electricity here - it looks like exactly what would help!
I signed it.

The fundamental problem with trying to equate a repeatable scientifically established volume of a commodity with a FIAT currency is that coercive market factors and money printing can be used to manipulate the transaction and undermine the potential for equal exchange.
If we wanted to be proactive we would nationalise the network and transact with an mechanism that is equatable and incorruptible. Like energy backed currency not promises from demigogues & the Central Bank about the rate of currency debasement they are endeavouring to undertake for a certain period.
Ironically if I want to heat enough water for a shower say ~30 litres to 50°C I'd have to invest about 3kWh into that thermal store. Which would cost me ~€1.20 of state leky after significant losses transporting it from centralised infrastructure (not factoring the cost of ownership (no house, no electricity for you!) subscription, exploitation and degenerative waste streams, byproducts and welfare reparation associated costs as well as their parasiticly poised benefactor expenses).
If I was to swim in the water tank instead, producing ~250Wh of exhaust heat per hour I'd be charging myself in excess of €200 for that service. Does that make sense? Oh course not. Contemporary economics are broken. It's time to build something better not band-aid the house of cards we've built.
Imagine if the way to accumulate wealth was to contribute energy to the networks as well as goods and services...sounds better than exploitation and gambling doesn't it?...wouldn't that solve the "energy crisis" and global inequality as a side-effect?
