It's an open-source EV charger that you put together as a kit. I figure you could buy a second-hand EV cable for £40 or so, and use that with the 'advanced series kit' (£250).

Looks like it is controllable with wifi, and could be integrated into Home Assistant or similar to make it reactive to PV surplus.

Very popular in America. I think their market is much less sophisticated with no Zappi, Ohme, or other smart charging points, so there is more need for this.

Im looking for something I can remotely alter the charging current. At the moment, the e-golf as 4 options - 6A, 10A, 13A and MAX, and I've got to turn the ignition on, wait about a minute for it to load up the software before I can change it. Our e-golf doesn't seem to be allowed to communicate with the VW app, unless we pay £50/year, which is really not worth it, especially as a lot of people are reporting the problems using the app.

Timbum - does the emon vehicle monitoring system allow you to change the charge rate and turn on/off the demisting/windscreenheaters, or is it just monitoring the states?

Mine is switchable between 6 and 32A, you can do whatever you like depending on resistor value. Mine is controlled with a switch on the unit so I have to go outside to change it. However it'd be simple enough to rig up a shelly to make it switchable between several charge rates.

Obviously open evse is more sophisticated...

Yes you can alter charge rate but no to other.
