We went in past homebase this morning who as you may know are closing their doors. 40% off paints. Being shy retiring types we went for a gold feature wall (insulated). This Heritage paint brand is great to work with. Top Quality gear! Worth a run in by if you have project plans, even if just to get at the price and store.Bugtownboy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 1:16 pm I agree with NB Joe - you’re making a significant change to your home and doing it to the best standard you can achieve.
The benefits, as I see it, to the 3G are increased comfort, reduced electric usage and changing the current windows - you’d probably need to change the sealed units at some point, so why not preemptively and to a higher standard
Least you’re getting the mess and disruption out of the way in one project.
It's still drying but will second coat tomorrow. The magnolia we are using is a three different magnolia mash up in a big bucket. It's none the worse for all that. Swmbo sold the coffee table today for £40 and has a rather funky retro teak low unit to replace the frankly heinous glass tv unit. We are fully paid up members of the relife/upcycle, reuse club.
With that in mind I'm glad that the 3g frames are made from recycled upvc frames. All going wellnthey'll get recycled again long after I'm deid.
My local tip (they call it a recycling centre) has a "paint library". Basically old tins of paint that anyone can take. There were a lot of ¾-full tins of Farrow and Ball last time I was there. A great idea if you're nor fussy on colour and want to save money and help the environment...

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
A nippy day up here at minus 5. Temps and wind low enough to see all the condensate plumes.
Hoping to hear back from glazing firm that it will be possible to make the side windows as one full sealed unit. I received an enigmatic email this morning from them saying "working on it". Hopefully a render coming our way soon.
Looking like a good day, hoping to beat yesterday's 6kWh PV take. Which is about 18kWh of heat when run through the multiplier box.

I wouldn't fancy lifting one huuge 3G unit into that frame!
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
Estimate 125 to 150kgs per unit.
They did say that they'd likely step up from 4/4/4.on the glazing to 6/6/6 to.counteract any wind wobble.. Fortunately they go in from the inside so less height to lift.
It would be nice to derestrict the view a bit.

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
This felt like a cohesive day with systems working together.
Started day at minus 5.
Had some charging slots.
PV kicked in with 1.3kW incoming.
Ran up wbs in its own version of low& slow at lunchtime.
Reduced HP heat curve and demand temp indoor to slow HP down.
At 14.45 we still have 75%+soc
18.5 degs
At 16.30 we'll go into low consumption mode and export down to 40% soc
Run the home through evening and then charge stack tonight.
I am very much still learning but it looks like there is good control available on the HP to finesse the day.
I've also just realised that it makes sense to run up the dhw when the air temp is above zero (currently 2 degs), especially when the wbs is chuntering away in the background. I'm enjoying this!

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
Looks like the temperature is up tomorrow
The month has went well in power reduction compared to a year ago. I think we'll be not too far of a MWh saved by month end. If that comes to pass and going on the 7p rate here's where we'll be on cash flow reversal.
Dec 24 £56
Jan 25 £70
I've dropped the heat curve down to 0.25 and system remains on active setting. My hope is that the system can spool up as required but have extra low temp to drop to if the situation allows. It will be nice to see figures undistorted by defrost cycles for a few days.
Starting from here today. Off into town for my reward for the front lounge works. A trip round some soft furnishings shops. Mmmn, smashing!
I'll give it to midday and if temp isn't up in an unpopulated house I'll know 0.25 is not the setting yet.

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
0.35 is getting it done nicely
We've finished kitting out the front lounge. The spend was £75 to furnish it. That went on lampshades & cushions.
Everything else was sourced from within the home or bought on the 9th hand market and upcycled.
A good example of this is a teak nest of tables for a fiver, a lamp stored in the loft by swmbo and a Dubai style 4W bulb brought back from Turkey in my backpack.
Heard back from the glazers. It will not be a problem or impact the lead time to have full height glazing units installed for the big lounge .
I particularly like the retro teak TV unit from Bon Scott's hometown. We've got four plants into the space. Northfacing room so we'll see how they do.

Stacking the wbs this morning and could hear the wind whistling past the bootroom door seal. Can also see how the window seals aren't great either.
