Tesla mention the launch edition Y (LR AWD), available from May, but don't give all of the specs, whilst looking at other options shows the 'old' TMY and prices.

Launch edition UK is I think £9k more, but appears to come with free paint upgrade, acceleration boost unlocked, and 'more', but not sure what more is. I think in other countries it may include FSD or the enhanced driving offering.

Best bet, is probably to wait for things to settle down, especially as Tesla has a habit of cutting prices once a model has established itself.
It's on there:

Seems expensive!
Yep, it's £9k more ($12k more in the US), I think you get that roughly in included costs, such as paint, interior, acceleration boost and more (possibly FSD related), but only worth it if you want that stuff. Edit, sorry FSD not included, but you get wheel upgrade and tow hitch included.

Otherwise, just wait for normal deliveries, which I suspect will be similar priced to the old TMY.

We went to look at an EV9, same family set up as Stinsey but two extra dogs and the facility and set up of the basic model was amazing the boys all fit in easily and the rear seats were fully auto raise lower so easy to change set up for dogs and an extra passenger etc - price point was good too considering it’s like a discovery but better imo. Only thing stopping us is the way the government is messing around with taxes and back dating - you can’t rely on them to stick to previous statements so you no longer have the ability to make informed purchases. So we are sticking with the EV 6 and our aged but effective RAV until the government get their cr@p sorted out.

Might have the RAV for quite some time.

EV9 is actually big enough, but not my CoT ascetically. I’m not convinced the iD7 is big enough. We had a Passat alltrack which was great when we had only 2 kids. The Passat had a 639L boot vs the iD7 with 532L.

I’m eagerly awaiting a Superb-sized BEV with a 690L boot!

How about a Vauxhall Vivaro? Not great range, but some of the SH models, are in the £20k's now, some 3yr+ under £20k.

Stats for a new 75kWh model.

Yeah. The new BEV Transit Custom/VW Transporter is in the same category. My problems are: 1) Van. 2) Range.

I get to Devon in one hop in my iD4 with a bit of traffic or a temporary speed limit. I’ve gotten used to that and a shorter-range vehicle would feel like a step backwards.

I really like the mahoosive estate car shape (Dad had a Granada), I can cope with a big 4x4, van might be a step too far.

I know exactly what you mean. I look back fondly on the Zafira we had. Excellent packaging, but no looker, and so, so boring.

dan_b wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 2:45 pm I have zero confidence in a "new cheaper" Tesla anytime soon. Musk is still all-in on his full autonomy koolaid, and that CyberCab thing, can't see them making a version of that with a wheel and pedals. And even if they do, cars with 2 seats don't tend to sell well in any segment, budget or premium.
Hi Dan, I think that's where the confusion is. Plans for a smaller cheaper new model, typically referred to as the Model 2, appear to have been shelved. And yes Elon has been clear that the 2 seat Cybercab, will not be produced in a version with wheel and pedals.

But Tesla has repeatedly mentioned plans to build some 'more affordable' models, which I think is simply code, for cut down versions of the 3 & Y.

Here is what Tesla has stated in the 2024 Q2 earnings report, and the Q3 report:
Plans for new vehicles, including more affordable models, remain on track for start of production in the first half of 2025. These vehicles will utilize aspects of the next generation platform as well as aspects of our current platforms and will be able to be produced on the same manufacturing lines as our current vehicle line-up.

This approach will result in achieving less cost reduction than previously expected but enables us to prudently grow our vehicle volumes in a more capex efficient manner during uncertain times. This should help us fully utilize our current expected maximum capacity of close to three million vehicles, enabling more than 50% growth over 2023 production before investing in new manufacturing lines.

Our purpose-built Robotaxi product will continue to pursue a revolutionary “unboxed” manufacturing strategy.
But of course, this is Tesla, where info is always lacking, and things can change fast. So I'm looking forward to the next earnings report (for Q4 2024), to see how this statement is repeated, changes, or disappears completely. Only my opinion, but 'first half of 2025', is now upon us, and even looking to late June, is still the very near future for such statements, so hopefully there will be some sort of update, rather than just a repeat(?) Also the earnings report is scheduled for the 29th Jan, which is about one week later than most reports, but that may mean nothing.

More thoughts/ponders, is that cheaper versions of current models, could have a huge Osborne Effect on sales, so that may be why we hear so little about it. I suspect a sudden announcement of vehicles being almost available, or the complete opposite, and them being dropped.

Clear as mud, as always.
Update. I'm surprised, but the quarterly report (for Q4) came out yesterday, and Tesla still has the same info in their report, whereas I'd assumed it would go, or be pushed back with something more vague like 2025, rather than 'first half of 2025'.

This seems awful close, so presumably things are going well if no change to the statement. I haven't heard the earnings call / discussion yet, so that might have an update.
