Measuring of the big window pair happening, woohoo! Looking at expanding foam the noo. The guys use a foam with 0.033 thermal conductivity. The best I can see which is well rated has a TC of 0.036 W/mk. Illbruck FM310

I don't think it's worth pushing for a change from their normal foam at that incremental gain?

Sorry ..... I might be being thick .... but from my understanding the foam your guys use is better for insulation as it conducts less (0.033 as opposed to 0.036).

But then I do sometimes get confused between thermal conductivity and thermal resistivity!

The stuff I used has a value of 0.035W/mk

Isn't their usual foam better in that case or am I getting mixed up?

or is the real point that there is no significant difference between the two? Is it measured - and can a method detect that difference, or is it calculated and reporting the third decimal place is hardly legitimate?

We had a chat about it and I'm happy with the foams they know. I don't think there's any real gain in the figures that I'd be aware of.

They went away happy and we're all looking fwd to the 24th March for the chaos to begin.

A really nice cop.when I came in from garage. 8-)

So that's the 5 week clock ticking to 3G install. Guys peeled back a little of the upvc external trim and we can see that there will be improvements just on the way the old windows were fitted.and foamed in. Gaps, voids etc.

We've currently got 5 tilt and turn windows that can be blown off seal and they are being replaced with top hung casements which are 'blow on'. We are also removing two casements completely and we are turning a side door from an inward opener with plastic bottom half to a full triple glazed outward opener. I could feel the original door being blown off it's seal during the last storm and the wind just came whistling in.

The rest comes down to the glazing and frame system which is already great. I've got a bit of retro insulation to do in one of the upper bedrooms as we've never been able to access the void but will when the dormer deep window internal cill is removed. Another few sacks of vermiculite will literally be thrown in by jug to top up the 1991 build spec ceiling insulation. This insulates daughters old room from above.

SWMBO and I discussed blind options. Looks like we'll be going for remote control battery pack units on the two trapezoidal windows. Very nice and super fancy.... yet the boringly named Scottish blind company quote £650 per sq mtr for such fanciness.

I've contacted Sona directly for a quote. £650 per sqr mtr makes the blinds more expensive than the 3G it covers.

If anyone knows of a company or a friend who does motorised blinds I've got either a 2 blind or 6 blind contract to be fulfilled, Price dependent.

I used a company about 10 years ago, for my cinema blackout blinds, they were very helpful.

I'll try to remember to dig the details out tonight, give me a nudge if I forget.
