JUST START ......
I started in 1996 ish .... bough a 30w pv panel , made a circit using zenner diode etc and used it to charge a rechargeable torch that otherwise sat on permanent mains trickle........
Then bought 60w BP panels @ >£300 each !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-used micro inverters ......... changed light bulbs for new fangled cfl's ..........
How times change.
PV soooooooooooo cheap -put 1,2 or 3 panels up use cheap chinese micro inverter.
Start a spreadsheet on consumption .......
Freezers on timeclocks ..........

Sure there are companies that’ll invoice you £10k+ for a solar/battery install. But a 1kWp DIY garden shed project would be way under £500 if you get the bits off eBay.
HPs are similar, plenty of companies will charge you £10k+ for a full install but you can get an A2A that’ll do a big chunk of the work for £500.
Even lower than that a smartplug is a tenner, a roll of loft insulation is £30.
Like I say, it isn’t about money (for the vast majority), it is about mindset. Some people have a delayed gratification mindset, others don’t. Giving people excuses and crowing on about “privilege” helps no one.
