An unwelcome story for the construction team, I thought the UK was pretty good at preventing this sort of thing generally, I imagine EDF are fuming about it as it doesn't instil confidence in the general building control systems if this sort of thing is occurring.

No I had missed that article, they ned to get on top of their waste bins and rubbish if they have attracted rats to that degree - sounds like poor standards as much as anything, now that the rats are established they will have a much harder time reducing their numbers.

They (EDF) dont seem to catch a break on the bad news front do they, mind you some of their bad fortune is down to their own staff, I was reading an article about them losing the salt marsh proposal and their spokesperson basically said we will try some where else to build the salt marsh to address the very small problem of the fish getting stuck in the coolant intake system - small issue 56 tonnes of fish a year ? doesn't strike me as small but what do I know?

They need a pied piper thats also good with fish

Rightly or wrongly, I’d look at things like this as an indicator to the overall ‘general management’ of the site.

There may be good reasons outside of their control, though if you were inspecting it’s the sort of attitude that maybe makes look a little deeper at fundamental processes.

I'm inclined to agree with you on that, things only tend to go the way they appear to be at HNC when the management isnt functioning well.

Just had a peek at Flamanville 3's output and it's been running at over 400MW for the last few weeks, it's still ramping up.

Looks like Sizewell C is nearing a start. From what I can figure, the Gov has finally found a way to finance it ...... us!

Sizewell C nuclear power plant ‘could get go-ahead within weeks’
The government is understood to be in the final stages of securing billions of pounds of investment from the private sector to back the project, which follows the Hinkley Point C nuclear plant, which is under construction in Somerset.

Ministers are expected to use the government’s spending review, scheduled for 11 June, to set out the UK’s investment in the project, which will ultimately rely on a mix of funding from taxpayers and via energy bills.
The UK government’s stake in the project stood at 84% at the end of last year compared with EDF’s 16% share of the project. The French state’s cash-strapped utilities company is understood to be eager to reduce its stake in the project even further.

I wonder why the government can’t see the risk of a technology supplier who wants to reduce its share in its own product ?

If they want to risk our money they would be better getting RollsRoyce to build their SMR and once the first ones in and ok belt out ten more, at least most of the kit can be made in the uk and the cash stays at home.

or question the wisdom of building a nuclear power station on a beach in the S of England which is sinking as Scotland rebounds after the ice age:
In Great Britain, glaciation affected Scotland but not southern England, and the post-glacial rebound of northern Great Britain (up to 10 cm per century) is causing a corresponding downward movement of the southern half of the island (up to 5 cm per century). This will eventually lead to an increased risk of floods in southern England and south-western Ireland.
(FRom Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-glacial_rebound)

And that's without any sea-level rise from melting ice-caps and glaciers. I think they are mad, and it's a shame that my money and all my descendants money will be being shovelled into it.
