Any hifi buffs/nerds here?

If there is a foul wind a blowin' then drop by for a chat - about coconuts of anything else off topic.

Any hifi buffs/nerds here?

Just wondering if there are any fellow audiophiles lurking around the Round Table of Camelot?

Would happily have a non-renewables nerd-athon about hifi set-ups if anyone is so inclined.

I've messed around with audio quite a bit in my time. Very hard to get decent stuff these days, no one cares about sound quality anymore, it seems.

My decades-old Sony ES AMP and Cambridge Audio floorstanding speakers are doing a great job.
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
6x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (14.4kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Glad to hear there’s someone out there!

I’ve recently started buying actual physical copies of music again - Spotify is convenient and good enough for the car but at home I would still like to sit down and just listen!

My set up is getting on for 15-20 years old for various components. As you say it’s more about convenience and consumption than quality these days but there are still companies out there making good products.

Not an audiophile but I do have a nice set of birth year B&O speakers with an Onkyo reciever and Majority dab radio. I do consider a fancier set up now and then, maybe increase my vinyl collection.

I've got a Majority DAB as well - it's got internet radio on it too and there are some great stations out there - Swiss Radio Jazz is one of my favourites.

I built a pair of these speakers ~25 years ago:

My brother's design (speaker design was part of his PhD), my woodwork -MDF with oak veneer.

I find that I don't just sit and listen to music as much as I used to though. I still buy CDs rather than downloads / streaming though.

Back in the early 60's I used to laugh. My little brother (two years younger) was an audiophile, had pretty good equipment. Some of which he made himself. At the same time I was also working with electronics/high precision amplifiers << op amps for what we thought the world's biggest/fastest differential analyzer*r >> Not 3 db (100%) between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz but 0.01% between ~ 1 Hz and 100 KHz. Now THAT is "fidelity".

BTW, that experience turned me off on computers for the next two decades. We had a MTBF of about 10 minutes.

* We couldn't imagine why the spooks might want a differential analyzer, but if they did, they could have secret ones we didn't know about.
