All cold washes here as an when it's sunny for drying - although I do have to trick my old Indesit into doing a cold wash - it's coolest wash option is 40°
450W hydro-electric
5110W pv
1.3kw Wt2 - not yet producing
6kWh lead acid - maybe 1kwh useable
LiMnCo battery made from 2nd hand hybrid car modules 3.6kwh nominal 24v.
300lt hot water tank and two storage heaters

Have you wired a switch into the heating element circuit?
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Nowty Towers ironing station is now in operation.

Batteries at 40% with 18kWh of usable capacity remaining. :?

No, but the battery inverter isn't quite fast enough to respond so inevitably I get some peak rate import leakage and even worse, some export leakage.

No. It's an old fashioned knob that turns slowly round through the programmes: it would normally stop at the start until the water's up to temp, so I 'click' it on two clicks.

Luckily dinner halted SWMBO's ironing session so batteries are still around 30% with 10kWh left and 30mins to go until the house switches to cheap grid power and expecting home battery to be back to 90%+ by the end of the cheap rate period.

So no gas for another day. :D

My wife's iron isn't liked by my sunny islands. They seem to struggle to keep the frequency stable. Yesterday I used my mums very old iron, probably about 50 years old to melt the ends of my sons new cadets belt to stop it fraying. Its normally used for worktop edgings and such like now but still going strong. :D
85no 58mm solar thermal tubes, 28.5Kw PV, 3x Sunny Island 5048, 2795 Ah (135kWh) (c20) Rolls batteries 48v, 8kWh Growatt storage, 22 x US3000C Pylontech, Sofar ME3000's, Brosley wood burner and 250lt DHW

January is usually the worst month of the year for energy import here at Nowty Towers as its normally the lowest temperature and 2nd worst month of Solar PV generation. So here is the low down on my gas elimination and total energy reduction progress. I first compared Jan 2022 with last years figures and then looked as far back as I have consistent data for which was 2013.

My domestic gas is now less than 1% of the 2013 value and my peak rate import of leccy is less than 1% due to my own energy storage.

Jan 2022 with 2 EVs.
Imported 34 kWh of gas and 2162 kWh of leccy, solar PV generation was 274 kWh.
Total kWh used was 2470 kWh. :D

Jan 2021 with 1 EV.
Imported 2395 kWh of gas and 934 kWh of leccy, solar PV generation was 232 kWh.
Total kWh used was 3329 kWh. :)

Jan 2013 with 0 EVs.
Imported 4118 kWh of gas and 458 kWh of leccy, solar PV generation was 108 kWh.
Total kWh used was 4684 kWh. :(

UK Grid must do better and match Nowty Towers performance with its gas consumption and intra day energy storage.
