ASHP condensate - what can be done with it?

#1

Post by snootsandfruits »

With the amount of water that an ASHP can generate - is there anything that can be done with it?
I've seen figures of around 50l/day for smaller residential ones (5/6kW) and much more for the larger ones.

Collection for window cleaning? Flushing toilets?

soft (but potentially contaminated/grey) water: water plants with it, especially indoor plants. Too precious to flush the bog with, unless there really is a massive surplus.
The heat exchanger it has drained off will have worked as a water-wetted filter and picked up all sorts of particulates and spores out of the air. I wouldn't put it in a steam iron...

the figures are best case scenarios:- if your running them in a hot steamy room like a shower room for eg.

You could certainly flush a toilet with it; probably ok for window cleaning; Don't use it for topping up lead acid batteries though:- I know someone who tried it once and his boat battery foamed up and made a mess.
450W hydro-electric
5110W pv
1.3kw Wt2 - not yet producing
6kWh lead acid - maybe 1kwh useable
LiMnCo battery made from 2nd hand hybrid car modules 3.6kwh nominal 24v.
300lt hot water tank and two storage heaters
ASHP Grant Aerona 3 10.5kw and UFH

Water for steam irons in hard water areas.

I distil a lot during the solar season but use a water distiller.
