One of the worst days here on the south coast.

Swings and roundabouts, but the good news here is after no rain for nearly 2 months with my underground river sourced heatpump starting to struggle with low water flow rates the rain has arrived and replenished the water table.

Well, we managed a PB for 22. A mighty 6kWh, all stored in batteries or laterally HWT. Doesn't read as that much yet it was enough to give us 6 green lights on the stack.


8% of which we chucked into the HWT. I guess this leads me onto efficiency, not batteries but the whole shebang. By taking care of business over the last few years, insulating, tweaking and reducing power consumption suddenly we start a new year where 6kWh can be spread out massively and we see no reduction at all in frankly a very pleasant life.

In my case, having a 4th power source has been beyond measure this year. Not only has it vastly reduced the gas use it has also played a great part in reducing electricity use (kettle, cooking, tumble dryer etc). Nowty does it via a personal river (I love that), other via personal WT's or a fortunate few via hydroturbine.. I'm rambling a wee bit here but it's all interconnected. Throw in Stinsys S/C rants and pertinent article from the Times and it moves beyond RE in my head into the land of 'I'll decide' not some power company prick. Jings, I'll have to drop into the conversation with swmbo the benefit of dropping gas completely. Wish me luck in that!

You said that last year! I might try a stepped effect next month or so. Its a great privacy hedge.

Must admit the latest price hikes in electric (we are on not on the gas "grid") have renewed my interest in generating my own. The new battery stack is doing well, (just on 50% SOC at 15:45, not bad considering they are running the heatpump as well), but at the moment it is mainly time shifting cheap(er) rate power to the daytime. Frustratingly I have another nearly 6kWpk of PV (20 panels) sitting in the garage all prepared ready to install but looking at the forecast it ain't happening for the next week, far to windy, might be able to fly them as kites though Shame as my 3kW system generated 9kWh yesterday - 4/5ths of F.A. today though! Like I said earlier starting to wonder about getting another wind turbine - the record 24 hour production from my old 1kW turbine was 15kWh, with lots of days around 10 to 12kWh. Today would be a good 12kWh day, which would run the heating with some left over!

My return flow temp from the river has increased from 2 degrees to 6 degrees.

I had never even thought about that until a few months back when I read some environmental document for gaining planning permission of a large sized wind turbine.
