I would happily settle in to eat that but without the butter and cream and I would be wearing a respirator as that blue haze smoke is the kind that triggers sever asthmatic attacks for me - but the flavour of the steak makes the hassle of the respirator worth while

BTB, ..if it sous vides ok (it will) then it will be good steak.

AKA "tortilla steak" but commonly deemed skirt here, we often buy a big bag of that.

The spider steak looks like it will do very well, will ask the butcher, (after i've shown it to the wife & got her to remember)

Hanger is different to Skirt - it’s a suspension for the diaphragm. Not much of it.

I’ve enjoyed it when quickly cooked - sous vide may lose some of the texture. It’s a bit of pfaff that isn’t needed - 30 seconds either side on a hot grill/pan

My son is worried about electricity costs and is thinking of tearing out the present 4 plate coil hob and putting in a 4 plate induction hob. I've been using a portable one for years, when the sun is out, and love it. Do you think it's going to be cost effective?? I wonder what the pay back time is. He's done his research and says it's £250. I thought they were a lot more than that.
Any advise wold be welcome!!

Mike, how often does he use more than one hob?

Sod "traditional home buyer expectations" of a (expensive 4 place hob) today i'd fill the hole & just have two (front & back) leaving me more space for the instantpot, prep work, the sous vide etc.

When we travel to france we will take the sous vide stick with us, small kitchenette has the microwave / grill & a hob plate, no problem.

4 hob size is ridunculous money more often than not, ..time for a re-assessment.

Nowt wrong with the IKEA induction wok as a multimodal pan either, i'm kind of regretting having so many analon pans around the place, it has had its time.

I have never used more than 2 hobs, & often cursed the thing for its size.

We coped with one induction ring for 18 months while I remodelled the kitchen. We then installed a silly 900mm NEFF induction hob that rarely has more than one pot on it.

Xmas palava is really just a big sunday lunch.
Lets face it, peas, corn, so many basic regular veggies can be done in a microwave in just a few minutes from frozen with the merest drip of additional water, most homes have a 1/2 decent microwave with a oven & grill tied into it (panasonic dimension 4 is a big seller) ..options.

Instantpot ..low energy, options for saute, steam, stew, etc etc..

Portable gas burner piezo lighting, gas cannisters, summer / power out / extra cooking surface ...options
(many homes have these now, they are as little as a tenner)

Cannot remember the last time we had a proper turkey for xmas, don't think my daughter ever has, she'd moan that the meat was ruined as she is used to us instantpotting & sous vide ing in the main (you get enough comments about an xmas dinner anyway) & its a time we really try to live greener than at any other time of the year due to the ridiculous excess.

All this coming from a bloke who smokes food, cooks, makes bacon, black & white pudding etc & thus IF, I had more space I'd stick my big Berkel in there full time (as big a footprint as a x4 hob) ..as is I have to lug it from room to room to use it.

The 4x hob is actually a pretty outdated concept these days imho.

The trendy thing is a “domino” hob. This is half the width of a standard hob and has one or two burners.
