Your favourite memories of Nordstream 2 "were" !?

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

Your favourite memories of Nordstream 2 "were" !?

News just in.

Nordstream 2 company files for bankruptcy & laid off all employees.

Of course this does mean Germany will extend their nuclear "fleet" for a 3 year duration (imho)

How quickly will the EU to get themselves round the table with alt energy, maybe that big old chunk of solar from africa the French didn't want routing along their waters?

Well , it was before that Ukraine-Russia conflict , that the German Government decided that this pipeline will not get online for now !!

And Gus , nuclear power generation in Germany will carry on to be terminated end of 2022 ( Most of the reactors are off line already) and the remaining 3 are in a phase that there is hardly any option to let them run longer

.... and Gus , hold your breath , you will see a fast increase on activities in relation to renewable energy in the next few years ,... (imho) ;)

The papers are saying that nordstream 1 supplies 26 million German homes? ..really!? that's a lot of renewable ground to cover, nice idea but wholly impractical at speed, with Russian oligarchs involved in metal supply, smelters & the like, I hope there is not another "chip type" shortage across the renewables construction industry.

Wonderful acceleration if we can, would likely require a war footing type industry change over.

I always bang on about utilising defunct airbase for housing & reconstruction ( a lot of 1st world skills & further training potential via migration & refugees from ukraine) except that folk get the jitters at the thought of barbed wire, restricted movement & labour, ..got to let go of the past & prove the model is good for instilling purpose for reconstruction & returning some day.

Set up a big sips factory for modular refugee housing suitable for various world environments, so we can help whilst displaced & help when they get back to God knows what.

Likely we will have 1 million displaced in Ukraine imminently.
After the Alberta (canada) floods folk were in government issue trailers for several years...(for example)

Oh , you changed the subject now to Nordstream 1 and installed European pipeline and you think that this pipeline supplies only Germany ? Because it lands there ?

Shouldnt you just stick to your own chosen thread title about Nordstream 2 ?
The papers are saying that nordstream 1 supplies 26 million German homes? ..really!? that's a lot of renewable ground to cover,
.... do those papers whisper that ?

But you might disagree with me , that the turn towards renewable energy is one major essential, to avoid wars .

No need for that smilie attached to your thread title

Get a grip billi,..I was astounded at what it could supply what with the doubling up of capacity, as a mega-project whether the reported figure was singular or combined with nordstream 2.

You keep going off on people since you came back, as if you are the only one with green leanings, if you are having a hard time since lockdown please talk to someone in real life, don't hit out here.

I am happy to see nordstream go & lots of renewables get built, but doubt it is going to be a gentle walk in the dew soaked grass. given the lead time for land based turbines, ones I've witnessed & the proposed timeline for ripple wt2. & heating season demand in say September 2022 onward without it.

No idea , what you are talking about ,

Before starting to think the situation is a big laugh , would be good to get some basic information right , don't you think

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nord_Stream

So if your thread title, that is connected with that smilie was a question then , i remember the Irak war and the slogan "No Blood for Oil"

You truly do have no idea, ..too often.

Let's put it into simple, hopefully idiot proof one line answers / confusion busters.

I am glad norddstream is gone.

I am glad to see many more renewables brought online.

I used a green smiley because I am glad less fossil fuels are to be used, potentially

.I used a green smiley because no nordstream makes governments utilise green energy faster than planned.

Reliance on a dictator being benign was never going to happen for long, ..I'm glad the awake people's coffee is being smelt (it was ersatz)

I don't like nuclear
I don't want nuclear
I question nuclear regularly.

I don't like people blaming it all on renewables when capacity is not enough & storage is not yet widely used, or available in a hurry, which they do already.

I am aware of "wound down" German nuclear power generators.

I am aware of panic, restarting German nuclear has already been mentioned in the press, & politics is often a popularity contest.

steady power is incredibly popular & part of politics.

I am aware that nordstream supplies more than germany.

I cited Germany as that is what was mentioned in numbers for homes heated via nordstream, that amount of German homes, BIG NUMBERS.

I questioned the big numbers, because they are VERY big, & give context if accurate.

Those big numbers strain the system, with no solution on the table.

Offshore turbines in the UK domain can require meticulous sea bed fingertips searches for munitions (not fast)

Logistics, deep pile capable specialist ships are not cheap, nor abundant, slowing progress.

Faced with 6 months before the next heating season keeping all Europe comfortable is pretty much impossible to coordinate, less so if it is a hard winter.

Supply issues generally.

Supply issues for renewables (like with a covid vaccine "squabble" between the European countries) are very likely.

Ok?

A quick "back of fag packet" calculation shows that at full capacity - 55 billion cu m per annum - Nordstream 1 can supply gas for around 42.7 million UK domestic properties - based on "average" UK domestic gas consumption of 13,600kWh.

Assumes 1 cu meter = 10.55kWh (assume "average calorific value for gas) but close enough I think

So average domestic (UK) gas consumption is 13,600/10.55 = 1289 cu m

So Nordstream 1 can supply around 55,000,000,000 / 1289 = 42.7 million "average" UK Homes.

Sources:

1. Nord-stream.com - nordstream website

2. "Review of the average annual domestic gas and electricity consumption levels" May 2020 Dept BI&S UK Gov

So the figure for no. of German homes supplied is big and seems to be in the right ball park - couldn't quickly find a figure for average German domestic gas consumption.

Its a big old bit of pipe !!

P.S. I do hope I've got my sums right !
