SWMBO is violently averse (not quite medically allergic) to sweet and sour, so as I love this we have it without any added sugar or vine fruits (as in https://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/rec ... d-cabbage/) and Balsamic vinegar is out as well.
Any old apples will do, currently our stored Bramley's have lost their acidity and are quite sweet, so I sometimes put a bit of malic acid in from the wine-making box to help it out...
Malic acid improves apple sponge or crumble too!

Old habits die hard. 4.5kW incoming from PV yet I'm still cooking on the WS, veg soup and bacon sandwiches while swmbo is doing a fry up for our son on the hot plate.

SO satisfying a way to live! :) The excess is going into the HWT. We are now chasing down the nightly Go Faster buy volume as gas has been firmly trounced.

A good time to make the most out of renewables and the WS, just had a price for heating oil of £0.9890/L  .
Checking back at one point oil was $77/barrel and heating oil £0.4885, so now a 43% increase in the barrel cost ($110) translates to a 102% increase in heating oil.
3.87kWp PV
10.24kWp PV SolarEdge system
Tesla Powerwall 2
100 x 47mm Navitron tubes (still being installed!) Now likely to be removed for more PV.

Sorry to hear that Iain. I hope your solar is catching plenty.

Solar is doing fine, heaters are on and still exporting, many will be in a bad position with that increase in price, just glad I put in my PV, etc.

Aye, me too. Pretty sure our gas was 1.75p per kWh not so long ago and it's now 6p. A lucky Co incidence that we were moving away from it as it ramped up. Recent test show we are currently good down to minus 3 without thought of gas. Testing continues.....

The restocking of woodstore 1 continues, woodstore 2 is full already and drying nicely. As I worked today the thought entered my head that this is now a political woodstore, operated by the 'Shove yer imported gas' party, membership 1.
The darker section to the right is the remains of last year store. That plus the double row in garage will easy see us into Scottish Spring (June 26th). :D

When’s Autumn start, Joe ?

27th June ? ;)

Same reason we got the WBS - independence for cooking, heat and hot water. Totally under your control - may take some effort, but the satisfaction of FU is priceless.

Nah that's Shetland. We're good until 8th Aug. SWMBO has really run with this WS thang and manages me well! :) When I read the thread in the paper this morning about turning off Europe's gas as he did to Ukraine I thought firstly 'told ye so' and second a feeling of relief 😌 that we're good to go.

I know we’re lucky to be in a home that we can have WBS’s and far enough away from neighbours to not bother them.

I really do feel for folk that end up being totally dependent on grid electric - even to run their gas boiler.

I know you and others have gone down a close to self-sufficient route with electric. Again, this is unobtainable to many.
