Smart meter / ToU tariff

We had Mitsubishi unit installed in January 2018 to warm lounge in shoulder months using PV or battery electric - works well as we only have gas fired CH for whole bungalow and had no separate heat source in lounge. Also been used for cooling recently and I suspect this will become more frequent!

Just noticed Intelligent Octopus where the rate is 5p/kWh between 23:30 and 05:30, seems like a decent deal.

Seems initially you need either a Tesla or a Wallbox Pulsar Plus charger + an IOS smartphone to be on the tariff, so that's me out.

Also you give Octopus discretion to charge the car at other additional times (and maybe variable charge rates) if the wholesale price is cheaper and your house gets some additional 5p slots to match in addition to the 23:30 to 05:30 fixed 5p slot. But don't know if you get informed of the additional 5p slots and maybe you only get them if your car is plugged in and charging.

But still, a guaranteed 6 hrs of 5p is better than my 5 hrs of 5.5p although I do get a better time slot of 20:30 to 01:30. Something to mull over before Winter comes.

Looks like a great tariff. I wonder if they’d let me have it even without a compatible charger/EV? Probably not…

The answer is currently no. They obviously think that as most household leccy will generally be EVs, they can switch the charging times around to take advantage of even cheaper wholesale prices (or negative) in order to compensate themselves for offering the additional 2 daily hours of 5p leccy. And they still may make money on the additional 5p slots if the wholesale price is lower than 5p during those times.

So long as they created an ITTT widget I could get my smart plugs to work with it (inc. EV charger).

Just got my 3 phase smart meter installed today so wondering what's the opinion on the best tariff to go for. Already with Octopus and will only be using it to charge the batteries in the winter (hopefully only occasionally) for the following day. Don't have an EV yet.

Agile is horrible at the moment. So it has to be a Go tariff if you have batteries/EV to charge and/or storage heaters.
