1 million EVs
Re: 1 million EVs
Therein lies the difference, a SMALL motorbike engine, a lighter plastic type body, far more positive than few miles from small battery, big engine that I am trying to get across (the gen 3 of the original toyota prius is missing currently on their website but production claimed to be sept 2023 from wiki?
I3 = far more capability, & less of "the push me pull you" I see very few of them on the road round here, assume most were on lease as part of "tax / company greenification" since sold on through auction.
I enjoyed seeing what road trips americans could do in it, for example,
We looked at the full BEV I3, however again the sales guys for it were never there, information was non forthcoming (disinterested staff) & it didn't feel as sturdy as the smart 450 panels (way more flex in the panels) & all the I3's I saw at auction were very dirty (poor material choice)?
I can understand having a dedicated ev specialist within a garage, but not to even have a card to hand out, arrange follow up was all to common, & again they didn't take the driver (wife) seriously enough to get out of their seats, any of them. (Cambridge BMW, science park DNGAF location) ..at the time I get the impression that BEV was a complete "never take off" joke amongst motor brands staff, still.

Hiya Gus, not very interesting, but thought I'd post this as it reflects what I mentioned about PHEV's slowly slipping down. Also in the French market which as I mentioned, was one of the stronger PHEV markets in Europe. It also shows how PEV figures can sometimes be a tad misleading, as these results show PEV's as flat, but hidden underneath is a rise in BEVs and drop in PHEVs.
Just to show, nothing is simple and obvious during transitions, especially one as big as the move to BEV's.
France In April – BEVs Up, PHEVs Down, Spring Is Sprung
[My bold.]April’s combined plugin result of 21.1% comprised full battery electrics (BEVs) at 12.9%, and plugin hybrids (PHEVs) at 8.2%. These compare with respective YoY figures of 21.1%, 11.7%, and 9.4%. We can see that BEVs are still growing decently, whilst PHEVs are sliding.

They are used by those who have lost their driving licences i believe.

Thats a good , also by the infirm and also, the lazy (no judgement, just what I've seen). On the B&Q scale I reckon you could have a decent DIY shop with these wee carts. The photo I put up, the guy had a 25mtr 230v reel in the rear compartment, well prepared! He had the trike on loan from a pal as he has osteoarthritis. Personally I wanted to see if I could get it to pop a wheelie.
There are a couple brand spanking new ones at my pal Yilmaz's place. I'll take a photo or two on the way down for dolmus this morning.

One more news article that I think helps to give people a clearer understanding of how BEV's and PHEV's interact.
For this one, we go to the extreme end of BEV adoption with Norway, where PHEV's have done a good job, but are now being squeezed out (along with HEV's, petrol and diesel) as the market approaches the upper end of the S curve for disruptive technologies.
Here's a chart that continues to be a thing of beauty:
Norway Continues To Grow Plugin Share With 3rd Month Above 90%

I think the Norwegian fleet is now approaching ~20% BEV, with BEV's growing at about 5%pa. Once they reach 100% of new sales, we may see the annual shift grow to about 6% or 7%. 20% BEV, possibly with the newer cars doing more mileage pa than the older ICE fleet, should mean that petrol/diesel sales have now dropped by more than 20%, or equal, perhaps, to the removal of 1 in every 5 fuel pumps? [There's probably some equivalency example requiring 'Olympic Sized Swimming Pools'.]This is the first time Norway has seen 3 consecutive months with combined plugin share staying above 90% (see graph below). April’s combined share of 91.1% comprised 83.3% full battery electrics (BEVs), and 7.8% plugin hybrids (PHEVs). This compares to respective YoY scores of 84.2%, 74.1%, and 10.1%. We can see that BEVs have continued to grow, whilst PHEVs have been squeezed.

Maybe related, I idly looked at Palladium prices and, unlike other precious metals, it has shown a decline over recent years.
I wonder whether this is linked to a reduction in the numbers of catalytic converters being made? I believe that silver prices fell after film photography declined, but recovered with the growth in plated connectors in electronic equipment.

Re: 1 million EVs
Can you tell me any more about your other half's experience with this car?I am looking at a 5 year old one because the ULEZ is a bit of a concern with my diesel fiesta which the family have had from new and I expected to be my last car. Mind I could venture into the ulez about 15 times on difference in annual tax; soon to change.nowty wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 1:46 pm SWMBO BMW i3 with its 647cc range extender is classed as a hybrid, its used an average of about 1 gallon of petrol a year and that works out at about 1% of mileage. You don't need an oversized battery as you don't get any range anxiety even when almost empty. Its only got a 9 litre tank but you can keep filling it up if you are stuck.
Can the engine provide cabin heat and be forced on on cold days?
What are servicing costs?
What doesn't she like about it? Annoying alarms?
I am working on the assumption the battery will last the lifetime of the car but looking beyond 10 years is this likely to mean just reduced range on the battery. The one I am looking at is about half its new price so if it lasts another 5 years that means amortising the cost at £3k/annum. anything after that is a bonus if I still have a licence to drive.
