Problems from EWI

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

I looked into EWI training, although I went a different way in the end.

The company I was dealing with was EWI Pro

I didn't use them in the end, but their courses seemed reasonably priced and they are quite local to me.

I also needed a brick slip solution which they were potentially going to look into a custom course for me if I could fill it (5 people). As it turns out I decided to go with CWI

Not sure if anyone else has looked at the courses but this was as far as I got

We have a poorly insulated (none) solid wall, 3 storey semi-detached.

Anyone got any idea of the cost of external wall insulation? It's something we have looked at, but always been put off by expecting the cost to be shockingly high!
I was quoted around around £7K-£8K just for the gable wall end of a two story semi-detached house - Total area was about 40m2 I think from memory but they were not expecting to have to change the roof overhang .... would have been quite a bit more if that was needed. My gable wall end was simple too only 2 doorways - no windows etc.

Hope that helps in someway with estimation
Thanks cojmh.... That's helpful.

Richard,

Check out the great British Insulation scheme to see if you qualify for subsidised or even free insulation ?

alternately there is the DIY route if you feel competent;

Thanks Moxi....

I'll have a look on there.

I didn't think we could get any help towards it as not on any means tested benefits. The wife has several medical conditions that are made worse by the cold and my 76 year old mum lives with us too and would preferably, if she had a choice, be warm!

The house is a nightmare to keep warm and it's pretty pointless even putting the heating on as don't really see any benefit to it except wasting money. Some of the walls on the inside were below minus degrees last year in the cold spell.

I remember vaguely enquiring about external wall insulation a couple of years ago and I'm sure a company said something along the lines of expect to pay £30-£40k... So I left it at that... No chance can afford anything like that. We just bought more fleecy hoodies! Hehe

Edit... Just filled that form in on the government GBIS page. Thanks Moxi...

It has sent the referral to octopus. EPC was D. Council tax band D. Own the home. So we ticked those boxes as least to let us apply.

Will see what happens. :xx:
