True enough - but it seems to be part of my essential nature - a part I've battled with my whole life.

Although in the case of solar panels, many of those who adopted early were more than compensated by the FIT they received.
450W hydro-electric
5110W pv
1.3kw Wt2 - not yet producing
6kWh lead acid - maybe 1kwh useable
LiMnCo battery made from 2nd hand hybrid car modules 3.6kwh nominal 24v.
300lt hot water tank and two storage heaters
ASHP Grant Aerona 3 10.5kw and UFH

Mine have just arrived! Just got to figure out what to do with them now!! First venture into ESS but pretty much aiming to follow Johnb80's 'diy-powerwall-battery' as detailed on UKWorkshop with a few tweaks. The Victron MultiPlus-II GX inverter seems to be a good choice as we don't have solar at the moment but it looks reasonably easy to add that later. Main aim will be time shifting to maximise low cost overnight electricity. Electricity use is relatively modest at around 3500 kWh PA so thinking the 48/3000/35-32 should make a reasonable dent in daytime use given we are on e-on with a 7 hour nightime window. At the moment because of the battery sale it looks like the whole setup should come in at less than £1.5k. My first post so any advice/thoughts/comments welcome.

Welcome!

I'd recommend a Hybrid Inverter to simplify adding solar at a later date though. Sunsynk seem to be the popular choice WRT price:performance ratio ATM. However there are loads of decent options. Victron only really makes sense if you're doing something unusual or complex requiring lots of devices working together.
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
6x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (14.4kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Thanks for that advice, I'll bear it in mind as my next phase will be more pv, more batteries and another inverter so that I can get the best out of it all -but I don't just want cheap. However I think I need to start another thread so that I can solicit opinions to help me get my head round all the options!
2.0 kW/4.62 MWh pa in Ripples, 4.5 kWp W-facing pv, 9.5 kWh Givenergy batt
30 solar thermal tubes, 2MWh pa in Stockport, plus Congleton and Kinlochbervie Hydros,
Most travel by bike, walking or bus/train. Veg, fruit - and Bees!

Thanks for the comments. I will have a look at sunsynk alternative. I'll not be doing much with the batteries for the moment - only dived in for them as i've been browsing for some time and never see any from a reputable UK source at anything like the price.
