I appreciate that this may not be as the National Grid would like though and could lead to people forecasting and holding back for peak prices but I don't see people willingly handing over physical control of their systems unless a fair and equitable contract can be produced - again wasn't / isn't this something Octopus are looking at ??
Moxi :D
Octopus have the Tesla tariff which I am on (but not for much longer!) that allows Tesla to decide when to charge and discharge my battery. The payback on this is I pay 11p/kWh for import and get paid the same for export with no daily standing charge which suits me fine, however they have changed the rules and I no longer comply with them so am being moved off this tariff. :(
I forget why you got booted from the Tesla Tariff. Was it because you have "too much solar"?
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Too much solar or not enough battery...
3.87kWp PV
10.24kWp PV SolarEdge system
Tesla Powerwall 2
100 x 47mm Navitron tubes (still being installed!) Now likely to be removed for more PV.
MK2 PV router DHW diverter
Morso 5kW WBS
Vaillant AroTherm 10kW ASHP
Nissan Leaf

Too much solar or not enough battery...
The new requirements of the "Tesla Energy Plan", and NOT to be confused with the "Intelligent Octopus Tariff (for Tesla cars)".
  • Any size MCS-certified solar panel installation up to nine kWp per Powerwall installed.
  • Annual consumption of daytime energy (from 07:00-19:30) remains less than 9,500 kWh per Powerwall-installed. (This is import from grid)
Their reasoning is,

Too big a solar array is going to export more @ 11p / kWh and cost Octopus too much.
More than 9,500kWh import @ 11p / kWh is too cheap to sell a lot to the customer at peak times.
18.7kW PV > 109MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 30MWh generated
6 Other RE Coop's
105kWh EV storage
60kWh Home battery storage
40kWh Thermal storage
GSHP + A2A HP's
Rain water use > 520 m3

I'd imagine they would be quite happy to buy units at 11p in the current market conditions.
