Idiot's guide to a self build battery
Re: Idiot's guide to a self build battery
That copper bar is 50mm x 6mm so you could say its similar to a 300mm2 cable which would be closer to a 500A rating but the bar will cool better as its got a larger surface area and not covered in plastic.
The table on this website gives 825A in still air for that flat bar.
https://www.australwright.com.au/techni ... ar-rating/
But it all comes down to how hot you like your cables and busbars to run.
I run my 50mm x 3mm flat bar at 200A and its barely warm, that table in the website says 570A in still air.

Thanks never thought about cooking due to having no insulation!
Appreciate the link too, will have a read.

Me-thinks you meant cooling, the k is next to the l on the keyboard.

If you put your purchase in the checkout at Fogstar ( no connections with them) and then don’t place order, they email you a few days later offering 5% extra discount.
Too early for me still haven’t finished panels on my garage, but just checking things out as I always under estimate, and it’s all the wee bits that add up with time/money

I've found this happens with Its Technologies too.AGT wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 10:11 am If you put your purchase in the checkout at Fogstar ( no connections with them) and then don’t place order, they email you a few days later offering 5% extra discount.

Re: Idiot's guide to a self build battery
I note that the cable craft busbar is described as an Earth busbar.
Presumably, earth busbars will generally carry zero or minimal current until something goes belly up. Then it is hopefully a short time before a breaker of fuse trips. Thus an earth busbar could have a higher rating than a busbar carrying currents all the time.
Also, it would depend on which posts are taking the current, 1 and 8 would have a lower rating than adjacent posts.

I have two extra jk bms inverters looking for new homes, that were recently delivered, and charged, despite cancellation issues.
If you are wanting to buy one, or two, PM me, as it will be considerably cheaper than fogstar and faster than china.
£101.32 each, plus postage
