Maybe like running your car A/C periodically whether you need it or not?
My son had to pay for a re-gas... we hardly ever use it either (not that I wanted it, it just came with the car!) Apparently if it isn't used at all the seals dry out and you lose the gas. I try to remember to switch it on monthly - when I check tyre pressures and oil level.

but will it offset the power consumed earlier in the day? Of course it doesn't really matter in the greater scheme of things anyway!
See this?

Technicians have been on site today to review the hydraulic oil level issue. We expect this to be resolved today. For further context, wind turbine maintenance of this kind is very much anticipatory. Graig Fatha’s sensors are continually running checks to ensure any issues can be addressed before they cause a problem. Oil levels tend to drop when it is not very windy (as it has been recently). This is normal. We don’t want to run the turbine when the oil levels are too low as this could cause damage. By doing this work now it keeps the turbine running optimally. But it does mean that the turbine has needed to be switched off. Very low wind speeds were already anticipated this month and were factored into members’ assumed generation/savings at this time of year. So this recent switch off has meant minimal disruption for members.
I would have thought that part of my negative generation when there was no wind would be running an oil pump so that as soon as the wind picked up it could get straight back into action...

Oh......... baby currently clocking up 2.5 pence per hour.

So 3 hrs of that will translate into 1kW at cheap rate which will keep me going for about a week at this time of year. 8-)

  Same here, made my week's power cost last night on the turbine. Finally up on the VB soc scoreboard too at 7.5%.

They have gone too far now showing the actual oil level.

And maybe your right Joeboy, notice the blue rags on the floor, maybe to mop up the leaked oil. ;)

Ooops! Is the maintainance subcontracted, or are Ripple employees learning on the job? If the latter then I guess we have to put it down to growing pains! If it is a contractor I wonder if they will be treated gently or whether the cost of lost generation will be deducted from their bill?

The logic is clear, no mention of leaks ever before and the day after a site maintenance visit the tank low-level alarms. Ach maybe not but its a strong indication of finger trouble to me. No witch hunt though, mistakes happen and lessons learned I hope. :D

Off to see the WT today (as a guest). Looking forward to it, even if it does rain.

There was a "bit" of Daily fail type reportage doing the media rounds the other day which made me think of this..

Negative news intro was for a failed w/t With an oil leak, ..unfortunately the dumb / nasty press wot put 2+2 together on a logical front of engineering that a turbine needs a big old reservoir.

What's next, the shock horror that bicycles use oil too? ..don't let no story get in the way of a non story.media tw@ts.

(Nor the fact that not all oil is dino-juice elated, or understanding "synthetic" oil *may not* originate from crude / petroleum sources)

I won't link the story as it likes on the viewing numbers.

Nb anyone else go past stationary w/t's & faux outrage shriek "there, y'see green technology doesn't work else they'd all be spinning" ..or is it just me!?😉

Enjoy your visit.
