Just got a more positive response from another installer:

Hi Brian,
Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, it is a lot more cost effective overall to get the panels with the battery system. From the looks of your photos, we could fit some panels on the front of the house (south west facing) and on the south-east facing roof which is on the right hand side if you are looking at the house from the back garden. My initial guess is that this will be around a 4kW system. Does this sound like what you were thinking?

A hybrid inverter would allow you to get the SolarPV charging the battery directly via DC which is more efficient. SolarEdge do a hybrid inverter which would work well if you did a split E/W array
Pretty much all Hybrid inverters have 2x MPPTs these days so perfect for E/W arrays. People are too quick to dismiss the non-south-facing bits of their roof...
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)
