How does the boiling water machine keep water fresh?
Every morning I pour off (collect) 2 litres of water so that the tea tastes "ok" but it needs refreshing o or tea gets tainted every few hours in a kettle, otherwise wasted & poured away, I cannot fathom a water boiler would change this for me, ...of course for instant coffee drinkers it doesn't matter (taking my wife's tastebuds as the standard)

It's fed from our (much filtered) cold water "mains" (really from the well). Every time you draw off a mug full it refills the small, very well insulated, pressure vessel heater via a one-way valve from the cold supply. I think the "freshness" thing is because the water remains under mains pressure (in our case about 3 bar) and cannot outgas to the air from the sealed heating vessel, so nothing sort of "boils off", as it does in a kettle. Best way I can describe it (not very scientific) is that boiled water left in a kettle tastes a bit "dead", Boiling water from the tap tastes just like very freshly boiled water. There is a big difference, very noticeable if you are a tea drinker.

Nice work!

There is a tendency to collect a vast number of cooking pots, these are seldom actually needed. Take the opportunity to declutter your cupboards a bit!

Wait until you start going through your wardrobes and drawers - once you retire you need far fewer clothes. Think we’re on our third or forth iteration of a clothes review.

Then once you do that, you start going through ‘stuff’.

Can be really cathartic to clear out things you’re either not using or just don’t add anything. Just keep the things that you value or give you pleasure.

See, I’ve been brainwashed by DW and Marie Kondo

Ditto, have so many analon brand ones yet nowadays suitability & energy costs, as well as the microwave (frozen veg, no water) sous vide & instantpot have meant that whole cupboards ought have been cleared & offered to students / heated or something.

My own kid took a wok, small pan, roasting tray & x rack, + instantpot to digs in essence. ..& that's it pretty much.

What to do with it all.

We aren't too bad with clothes although with three under fives there's a LOT of little people clothes. I tend to wear the same two pairs of shorts three t shirts and three hoodie style tops for 3/4 of the year - accompanied by crocs unless it snows heavily in which case I will wear some socks and put my boots on.

As far as the pans go - went through that exercise a few months back and got back to a sensible number of pots and pans - just got to do the same with baking tins and trays next.

Last one from me for a while. Locking up tomorrow morning and walking down to train station to start journey to Turkey. We are having steak night tonight and I've just been out to check powerflow. All these lights and razzmatazz are running purely from the stack. Another 6 led lights on in the house too. Still no grid touch. I'm going to miss playing with the lifestyle but tonight it fairly hit me how excellent it all is. To do all this from today's sun when it looks like this outside. Like magic eh? 8-)
