We regularly produce about 8 MWh of photo-voltaic electricity. Because the rules are different, the program we were on allows "net billing" up to what we were using before the solar was installed. So no battery, because we are allowed in effect to use the grid as a giant battery, unlimited duration. In summer we produce more than we use (so in effect exporting) and in the winter less (in effect importing it back). BUT, the accounting is in terms of dollars, not KWh, and the price/KWh not necessarily the same << the state allows the utility to get a rate change every six months>> We also get an SREC. The program is NOT the same now and it might make sense for people getting solar now to have battery storage.
