Worth checking if biomass is included in the official "RE Generation" stats for the UK as a whole. I have a feeling they are, when they really shouldn't be. Drax burning American Forests is hardly anyone's idea of true renewables.

Key thing that jumped out at me from that article was this rather surprising statement, given current concerns about energy security and the way energy has become a weapon of war:

Currently 82.2 per cent of all current and pending UK offshore wind capacity is foreign-owned. This includes a striking 44.2 per cent of current offshore wind generation owned by public foreign ownership, including through state-owned and controlled enterprises, and 38 per cent of pending capacity; meaning 42.2 per cent of the UK’s current and pending offshore wind capacity is in foreign public ownership in some form (see Figure 1). By contrast, just 0.03 per cent is owned by UK public entities, less than the Malaysian government (0.1 per cent) or the city of Munich (0.85 per cent).

The ownership is likely to be fragmented enough not to be a security concern although from an economic point of view, that's not good.

It's not like a pipeline or a ship full of gas is it? Someone could just choose not to send gas to us, this is a windfarm connnected by cables to us alone.

I guess the owners could use telecomms to tell the turbines to shut down, but hopefully our IT spies could just over-ride that and reverse the instruction...

Just been digging around. Orsted owns about 18% of all our offshore wind turbines and Orsted is 50.1% owned by the Danish government. Next big owner is the Norwegian company Equinor, with about 9%. Neither country poses a major risk to UK security at the moment, IMHO.

Two of my investments,

Greencoat UK WInd (UKW) has recently bought 12.5% in Hornsea 1 and will be buying into Hornsea 2.
Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG) has recently bought 10.2% in Hornsea 1.

Hornsea 1 was owned 50/50 by Orsted and GIP (US company).
