Re: The ornery nature of some people
To be honest I just want it all to go away, and for us to be able to continue to live harmoniously with everyone around us, causing the least harm or nuisance possible.
I'm now concerned that if I put up the solar panel canopy along the side of the house, that may inflame the situation still further. I've wasted far too much time dealing with these complaints as it is, and although they are all baseless that doesn't mean they don't have to be dealt with as they come in, one by one. I've spent more time batting off the consequences of complaints over the past couple of weeks than I have getting real work done, and it's getting to be a bit exhausting. Others have also had their time wasted as well, from our contractors, through the parish council, the editor of the parish magazine to Wessex Water HQ in Bath, who sent someone down this morning to deal with the reported "emergency".
I dearly wish I knew who was behind this, and why they are so intent on being such a PITA. I can't help feeling that if they would just talk with me the whole thing would evaporate, given that there is no substance behind any of their complaints. I've been wondering if they are just vehemently anti-green.
Pretty obvious to all locally that we try very hard to minimise all forms of pollution and keep as low an energy and emissions footprint as we can, but that's been common knowledge since we first bought the land here in 2012, and gave a talk to many in the village about our plans. This is a staunch Tory area, though, so although I'm fairly apolitical (I doubt anyone locally knows how we vote), perhaps whoever is behind this is one of those fossil fuel burning fanatics. TBH I'm struggling to find any motive at all.
I'm 100% with Desp on the legal thing, I definitely do not want to go down that path.

Re: The ornery nature of some people
Reading this thread as it has developed, and (now) in the light of Rees-Mogg's ludicrous lies about the potential impact of shale gas (thanks someone for introducing me to Aldridge Prior) I was thinking that there is a massive divide in the population.
Most people want more renewable electricity and support more onshore wind turbines. A few are blindly opposed to them, and to pv (and probably to geothermal too.)
It seems there is a small inward-looking minority who cannot or will not take off their blinkers and I wondered whether it is a cultural/tribal thing? In the 1970s (and for most of the time since) I got the impression that environmental concerns were seen by the establishment as alternative, subversive or just "Pinko" or communist leanings. I fear that a lot of the the obstruction of much-needed change is a result of this blind prejudice which seems to be immune to reality, facts or logic.
The cynic in me feels that it could be because the giant companies which have acquired a stranglehold on our infrastructure (backed by the City) are seriously threatened by renewables as they are a cheap dispersed source of power (unlike a massively-expensive oil-well,) but that wouldn't explain the same reaction from the ordinary population.
Can the Daily Fail and the Excess really have such influence? Or are people so small-minded that they will ape R-M no matter how ludicrous he is? Or is it just another instance of people being unable to recognise that what they were once told and used to believe might have turned out not to be true?

OGB, your local council should be able to help reveal the complained based on you citing distress caused to yourself, ..&by time waster regardless of initial claims of privacy, especially if the person is a constant pain in the backside to the council on any local governmental level, & could get the police involved in your behalf to tell them to cease as it all costs time & effort to resolve clearly malicious claims by the person.

Re: The ornery nature of some people
I now have a pretty good idea as to who the complainant is. A week ago I screwed a tough, plastic laminated, sign to our fencing, near where the wall is being built. That sign gave my name, phone number and email, and requested that if anyone had any issues with the work being done could they contact me in the first instance, and I'd try to resolve any concern if possible.
That sign got physically ripped off yesterday, with bits of it remaining around the screws and washers that were fixing it. It definitely hadn't blown away from the look of it, so I went trailing through the CCTV, as the rear of this bit of fence is just visible from one of our cameras. I now know who ripped the sign away, and I think it is a pretty fair bet that she has also been the arch-complainant.
A new sign is now up, and just for added fun I've screwed one of my spare "CCTV in operation" signs next to it. The culprit may get the hint that she's been caught already on CCTV, perhaps. I await the next time I see her around, be interesting to see if there is any reaction from her.

Re: The ornery nature of some people
That has now gone beyond "simple" harrassment to criminal damage. You could mention involving the police.

I was going to say the same. I'd mention this to the police. A knock on the door from the police make make her behave.AE-NMidlands wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 10:25 am That has now gone beyond "simple" harrassment to criminal damage. You could mention involving the police.

Make sure you talk about how it makes you feel. They seem to love that. If you can play a discrimination card, even better.

Oh Smeagal, SO cynical! Do you mean because he's old and feart? To borrow from Sir Terry, 'Oh waily waily officer, feart I am, clean through to ma britches'.smegal wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 10:30 amI was going to say the same. I'd mention this to the police. Not a bad idea especially as she has history assuming it is the same person mentioned earlier in thread?

Re: The ornery nature of some people
I’d involve the Police - you’d probably be doing her a favour. At the moment she’ll probably just have a visit that should mortify her.
Let it go and her actions could escalate requiring something more official as a response. Or she picks on someone that takes more direct action - think OGB is being very restrained & trying to be a responsible neighbour/resident.
