Re: More Octopus innovation
Another 2 turn down victories and another 92p credit.
Event 3, well this was insane as due to seasonal averages, I actually turned my storage heaters UP for those 2 hours to maximise my rebate.
Event 4, well due to the rounding errors, its very difficult for me not to get the minimum 20p credit.
Event 5 is tomorrow afternoon so I forecast another 20p unless SWMBO decides to do a non inverter friendly steam ironing session.

Event 6, another lucrative night time one for me, that will be a free 10kWh charge into the EV and power my regular Thursday fish run. Tomorrow is my official Day 10 of covid and my symptoms have gone so the guidance is I can leave isolation without testing. But I will be wearing a mask and the fish market is outside.

Re: More Octopus innovation
Whoever is running this at Octopus (and the people at the grid behind them) must be enjoying themselves! What a nice job to have.
Seeing as this is effectively publicly-funded research let's hope that we see something published in due course...

Re: More Octopus innovation
Event 7 early one tomorrow but another guaranteed 20p.
I think the Octopus is losing it as they have given me my results for Events 5 and 6, but labelled them Events 3 and 4, already had them.
Nowty Towers has 100% record so far.
Had to be very careful not to bust the limit on the midnight one on the 24th, I started the car charger 10 mins late so had to get the calculator out.
Free Leccy from the Octopus for the Thursday Fish Run.

Re: More Octopus innovation
Are there any figures for how this is going across the country ? are they obtaining significant reductions and getting a benefit for the grid?

Re: More Octopus innovation
Yes they usually publish how much C02 has been saved after each event, see message - https://camelot-forum.co.uk/phpBB3/view ... t=20#p9262
But they have not included that info this time but the main benefit for the grid will be the information learned from the trial by the National Grid who are paying for the "Dirty Turn Down" events. It will allow development of policies to use customer demand behaviour to help level grid use and reduce peak time surges. This will inevitably allow the country to use more renewables with less storage capacity than otherwise required.
No doubt Octopus themselves will learn enough themselves to give them a competitive advantage in the leccy supply market.

Re: More Octopus innovation
After the BIg Dirty Turn Down, Octopus are now trialling the "Big Clean Turn Up" for folks near windfarms to get free leccy when its windy.

Re: More Octopus innovation
Finally the Big Dirty Turndown has finished and Nowty Towers manged to meet all 8 targets and has been awarded about £2.60
Its a pity there was not an extra bonus for meeting them all.

Re: More Octopus innovation
So following on from last winter's Octopus Big Dirty Turndown, there will be another similar set of events but this time, more nationwide with more suppliers involved and higher value rebates.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63175030
I note not many on here with battery systems bothered to sign up last year because most thought it unlikely to be worth it as you need to reduce your peak usage against your historic baseline to which would generally be very little at peak rate. In fact I think I was the only one.
But Nowty Towers made £2.60 by meeting all 8 targets. Well I didn't really but because of rounding errors I actually was guaranteed to make money and there was a minimum payout level. So this year maybe more folk should at least give it a go as there is nothing to lose. Also there were a couple of surprising nightime turndowns which made me the most dosh.
What we know so far for the forthcoming events.

What we know so far for the forthcoming events.
- You need a smart meter.
- It will be at least 12 and as many more as is needed between 1st Nov and 31st March. So more guaranteed events equals more rebate.
- Average of £4 per customer saving, up to a max of £10 rebate per event.
