Octopus Free Power Hours
Re: Octopus Free Power Hours
Interesting seeing what the grid's doing today - apparently if you're on Agile the rates today are extremely low as well and we can see why -
stacks of solar, wind increasing, a bit of hydro, all the nukes - they're even pumping water uphill at the moment to make use of that cheap power.
Gas and Drax are both very low, and overall low demand.

Impressive import figures chaps - best I managed was 3kW! Although at work we had a member of the public plugged in and using our 7kW PodPoint at that time so hopefully those imported electrons will have been free...

Re: Octopus Free Power Hours
It's a good job that these hours are 1300 to 1400 and not 1500 to 1600... that way those of us who do some things manually (like switching on the immersion heater) and who then get engrossed in another job don't stray into peak hours import! Good job the battery charge (end time) is automated too!
Luckily my immersion heater had already decided the water was hot enough and had switched off. I don't imagine the freezers and fridge on "boost" for an extra 15 minutes would have made much difference!

Re: Octopus Free Power Hours
I fecked up somehow, home battery did not discharge overnight and was full at beginning of power hour. I tried to remotely turn other stuff on from the Tower of London but too much solar was coming in.
I had to bail out of trying as was losing income on the export.

Re: Octopus Free Power Hours
just had an email saying
Thanks for switching on for our first Free Electricity session on Thursday 15th August. Together, you stopped 180 wind turbine's worth of clean, green power from going to waste. Pretty cool ey? And here's how you did:
You used 144p worth of Free Electricity
Not a fortune, but not too bad for an hour's free extra power! Collectively, you guys saved £126,000 by making the most of 531 megawatt hours' surplus green power.
