Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Will have to give that a try and see what happens.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
I'm just re-doing the maths on the 1st Dec saving session to see if my theoretical values equals what I was awarded.
18.7kW PV > 109MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 26MWh generated
5 Other RE Coop's
105kWh EV storage
60kWh Home battery storage
40kWh Thermal storage
GSHP + A2A HP's
Rain water use > 510 m3
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 26MWh generated
5 Other RE Coop's
105kWh EV storage
60kWh Home battery storage
40kWh Thermal storage
GSHP + A2A HP's
Rain water use > 510 m3

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Calculations are solid.
As I practically don't use any power in the peak periods I am simply going to say 0.001 kWh for my half hour Unadjusted Baseline Values, so this is the average import in a number of previous days at the same time as the saving session. For us lot on batteries the number is always going to be very low and so low some folk think its not worth bothering with.
First lets go back to the 1st Dec Saving session from 5pm till 6pm.
Now we take the average import in the 6 half hour periods from 1pm to 4pm, but I have to take off the Unadjusted Baseline Value, so I need to reduce each value by 0.001 kWh.
0.004 + 0.001 + 0.002 + 1.337 + 1.786 + 1.167 = 4.297
After subtracting the Unadjusted Baseline Values we have.
0.003 + 0.000 + 0.002 + 1.336 + 1.785 + 1.166 = 4.292
4.292 / 6 = 0.715 kWh, this will be our In Day Adjustment Value
NOTE - For a normal user the value calculated above would be very small indeed and make sod all difference to the next bit.
So the Baseline Value = Unadjusted Baseline Value + In Day Adjustment Value
Baseline Value = 0.001 + 0.715 = 0.716 kWh
So for the 1st Dec Saving session instead of using my unadjusted baseline value which would be 0.001 kWh, they used 0.716 kWh.
The session was an hour (two half hour sessions) and my actual import was zero as I was offgrid so I saved 0.716 + 0.716 = 1.432 kWh.
Octopus says,
So say I have a 10kW average import power during the 3 hour, in day adjustment period, so that's 5kWh for each half hour. To make the maths easier we just take the whole 5kWh as the savings per half hour of saving sessions.
In a one hour saving session that's 10kWh saving so will be worth £22.50 but have to minus the premium I would pay on the up front peak import.
30kWh x 0.2311 = £7 for my tariff, so I would turn a £15.50 net saving.
But if it was a two hour or even a four hour saving session.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
I'll definitely be giving it a try at the next saving session then.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
I have already gamed the system by charging the battery prior to the event and I can follow Nowty's cheatsheet by charging the battery over 4 hours before the event, at a reduced charge for 3 hours, the trick I am missing is preventing it discharging in the one hour before the event.
Would setting it to charge at a very low rate during that hour prevent it from discharging but at the same time enabling it to accept some PV charge were it available?

I don't know about yours, but my SMA and I know the Sofar can be set for zero charge, so that it sits there and neither charges or discharges.openspaceman wrote: ↑Thu Dec 08, 2022 11:48 pm I have already gamed the system by charging the battery prior to the event and I can follow Nowty's cheatsheet by charging the battery over 4 hours before the event, at a reduced charge for 3 hours, the trick I am missing is preventing it discharging in the one hour before the event.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Two hour savings session tomorrow (Mon) between 5pm and 7pm, double bubble.
And I'm back in Nowty Towers from the North with an empty EV battery and require extra storage heater boosting.
The "In Day Adjustment Value" window will be from 1pm to 4pm, if you know what I mean.
And if you don't, go back to here and read the next few posts.
