Solar at my workplace

#1

Post by dan_b »

Thought the forum would like to know I've just got agreement for a SolarPV array on our company office HQ!
We're going for a 11kWp array using 3phase SolarEdge on our SE-facing roof.
Looking to get it installed mid-November.
The thing that swung it was confirming that SolarPV would qualify for the current "Superdeduction" capital investment tax discount (which expires next March), combined with the ruling that SolarPV no longer impacts on business rates - and with the very high electricity prices, the "payback" time has fallen to 2 years - and the accountant was more than happy with that.

Super pleased. Will post updates once the install starts.

Great news!

Battery? Even 1x your kWp would help when clouds come across the sun and to stretch the generated electric into the early-evening...
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

We did look at a battery system, conceptually I want one - particularly to make weekend generation useful, but found it much harder to make the maths work - and ultimately cash flow is king.

We're a company of 12 people, lots of computers on site (post-production digital media) and we have a green screen film studio. There's also 2EV chargers.

I was thinking more "intra-day" rather than "inter-day", obviously it is difficult to make neat calculations for your accountant. However imagine a sunny morning followed by a dull afternoon.

However you should take your wins where you can get them! Maybe you could specify a hybrid inverter so that batteries can more-easily be added later?

I was talking to the guys at the factory I visit from time to time, yesterday. They proposed solar PV on the field adjacent, which they own. Quoted £3m (!), with a 4 year payback, but times are hard, so it's been put on hold. It's a real shame, that's far better payback than they get from any of the production lines, not to mention the green benefits.
Solar PV since July '22:
5.6kWp east/west facing
3.6kW Sunsynk hybrid inverter
2x 5.12kWh Sunsynk batteries
1.6kWp Hoymiles East/West facing PV on the man cave
Ripple DW 2kW
Ripple WB 200W

I know! It's a big factory, and it is a big field next door - no idea of the actual size

Update - got the solarPV install scheduled for 29th November. Planning to put a timelapse camera up and film the whole install process, should be fun!
